As some of you may know, I'm on a slightly unusual but (so far) intellectually rewarding 9-week long journey through urban Europe looking at modern social conflict and social welfare. I'm travelling to sites of migrant crises, areas of endemic poverty, wealth inequality, riot sites where I can view the rise of the rightwing movements, and hospitals and schools where I can see social policy in action. Always trying to stay with and converse with locals. There may be some lessons in it for New Zealand, as our public policy confronts issues of social need, race, poverty, and migration. There'll also be the occasional side trip thrown in as well, like today's trip to Norway's fjords on the wedding day of a princess and a man who many would describe as a con artist, but who describes himself as a shaman.I'm chronicling this whole trip for subscribers on my Substack publication. My short work is posted free, the longer pieces under a subscription.Substack is a place where I can put my writing  projects like this one, for the three or four people out there who might share my interests and curiosity.I'll chuck pieces of it on Twitter as well. Happy to chat about it, especially if you've got a firsthand perspective on these topics, or an understanding of Dublin, Belfast, Edinburgh, Brussels, Malmo, Stockholm, Oslo, Bergen or the places I'll be traveling to in the weeks to come.Any local contacts are appreciated.See you in a few weeks. https://lnkd.in/gr3t_W9d
