Attending a Conference Expo is more than just a chance to pick up free swag. As an attendee, if you are fully engaged in the Expo, it is a chance to learn more about business partners’ services and products. Associations are always in need of services to address operational needs or special projects. Expo’s provide the manager with the opportunity to ‘interview’ in a casual setting. Plus, you get feedback from other managers on their thoughts around a business partner’s services. Planning ahead for future needs and finding out what new services there might be that would benefit the community is a win-win! With all of the upcoming Expo’s happening across the country, managers should plan ahead to identify which business partners they want to engage with and learn valuable information as part of their networking efforts. #networkingopportunity #engagement

Virtual events have a key role to play in community building, especially at the start, but they have to be done right. During the pandemic, many of us came to think of virtual events as 8-hour slogs in front of the computer that attempt and fail to recapture an in-person experience. That's the wrong way to approach virtual events. Virtual events are not a substitute for in-person events; the are a supplement to in-person events.
