Boston's Job Market: Is Legal Talent the Unsung Hero? As a legal recruiter intimately connected with Boston’s vibrant job market, I’ve observed a key trend that often escapes mainstream workforce reports: the indispensable role of the legal industry in powering our city’s economic engine. Boston, renowned for its cluster of elite law schools like Harvard, Northeastern, Boston College, and Boston University, is not just a cradle for legal minds but a pivotal force in the business world. While roles in growth, technology, and engineering are rightly celebrated for their rapid expansion, reflecting Boston’s robust STEM focus, the legal sector’s contribution is equally crucial, albeit less heralded. Legal professionals are the unsung heroes facilitating seamless business operations and compliance across diverse sectors. The spectrum of legal expertise in Boston is vast, encompassing biotech, cannabis, finance, real estate, energy, telecommunications, and data privacy. This wealth of knowledge is essential, especially as Boston’s economy is increasingly driven by startups and tech innovators. A startup’s journey from ideation to market dominance is interwoven with legal complexities – from business filings and public offerings to mergers and acquisitions. Legal expertise is not just an add-on; it’s a fundamental necessity for these businesses to thrive and navigate the regulatory landscape. The rising demand for specialized legal roles is evident in the growing number of niche legal recruiting agencies in Boston. These agencies are pivotal in bridging the gap between legal talent and emerging business needs, ensuring that startups and established firms alike have the legal scaffolding necessary to succeed. In sum, while Boston’s workforce trends spotlight the significance of STEM roles, the legal sector’s influence is omnipresent and vital. As someone deeply passionate about legal recruitment, I’m excited to be part of a sector that underpins the city’s economic dynamism, providing critical support to the innovators and entrepreneurs shaping our future. As I review the list I'm not surprised by VP of Growth, companies are always looking to grow the top line, you have to in order to survive. Growing vertical markets is paramount! As for behavioral health MHT's, having been part of this environment this is a crucial role. The rates of pay aren't necessarily the best, in order to attract and retain you must offer competitive wages or there will be constant turnover resulting in lost onboarding and training costs.

If they’re qualified to do the job, hire them. “But we might get someone better.” Or you can hire a qualified candidate who will get to work delivering products right now. When I needed my roof replaced, I didn’t hold out for a roofer who could do windows, too. True, I’ll replace my windows someday, but today, I need a new roof. CEOs’ number 1 concern is access to data and AI talent. Meanwhile, their technical teams are holding up hiring by waiting for a candidate with skills they don’t need. CEOs think they can’t find qualified candidates for technical roles, but the reality is that their teams’ standards for ‘qualified’ keep inflating, so qualified candidates never get hired. The point is to get someone capable of doing the job, so stop searching once you do. #DataScience #DataEngineering #Analytics
