The biggest risk in workplace safety? Not knowing where the gaps are. For many organizations, safety programs are built on assumptions rather than data. By tracking Employee Safety KPIs, businesses gain visibility into critical risk areas and actionable insights to improve safety performance. Metrics like Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), and Safety Training Completion Rate ensure that safety programs aren’t just in place - they’re effective. ▶️ Get your copy now: https://lnkd.in/djHU-WQs #TheKPIInstitute #TKI #KPIs #EmployeeSafety #RiskManagement

Workplace safety isn’t a box to check—it’s about creating environments where every employee can go home safe at the end of the day. This year, it’s time to move from discussions to action. In our latest Substack post, we’ve outlined key steps to set focused, laser-sharp goals for health and safety that actually work: ✔️ Why “improve health and safety” as a goal, is too vague and how to use the SMART framework to make your goals specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. ✔️ How to predict and prevent risks with smarter tools. Let’s talk about fatigue definitions… SWA are seeking feedback on a new CoP for fatigue risk management. The existing guidance & code define fatigue as “a state of exhaustion”. We should be managing our workers well before they become exhausted (asleep in a puddle on the floor!!). Also, if we're talking "causes" as they have outlined - the work task and environmental causes are well covered by psychosocial, occupational hygiene, and ergonomic codes & standards. There's too much overlap and confusion. My preferred definition is “Fatigue is a state of impairment caused by inadequate sleep, extended wake or circadian disruption. The extent of impairment can be influenced by task, environmental and individual factors”. Therefore, we manage work hours to ensure opportunity for sleep / wake and minimise circadian disruption. We develop personal fitness for work expectations & defined controls. We manage performance when engaging in error-prone work tasks and environments. Simple. What do you think? #safework #fatigue #codeofpractice
