Friday Evening Fail! Failing to realize the roller coaster of a ride your career will take. When we are working towards our degrees we always think the sky's the limit. We believe there is nothing we can't do, that it's all upward from there. And for the most part, it is. However one's career often feels like a roller coaster. There are mostly ups and some downs. Like the S&P 500 over the past 100ish years; ups, downs, but always climbing higher. If you continue to push forward, continue to put in the effort, your career will be the same. It has been 2 years since this nostalgic rollercoaster ride. Here is what Peter Parker taught me: Things not in our favour can lead to something good, maybe better. You are not going to have everything how you want it. There are going to be days when you are going to feel stuck. On those days, it will feel like you are the biggest loser on the planet. It feels like you can’t get anything right. It seems like good things are not meant for you. It feels like you are not good enough. It feels that no matter what you do or how hard you try, you can't get through. On those very days, remind yourself, that maybe bigger winnings are in store for you. Remind yourself that maybe not good, but great things are meant to be your way. Remind yourself that you are good enough. Remind yourself that you need to keep going, keep trying, keep delivering your best. Remind yourself that there is no limit to how you will make it. The rollercoaster has been extreme of late. Recently I have landed some utterly desirable projects. Conquering some big marketing wins and gaining clarity. And seeing the foundations I have been building start generate what I ideally want. But there have been a few wobbly moments [wouldn’t be small business if there wasn’t … right?] but concentrating on the things to keep me sane like journaling, eating decently and regularly, sleep, a new reflection tool from Penny Locaso and staying connected to groups and people that fuel me has been ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I have also been more transparent then ever about what a project needs, and not been afraid to ask for more time to conquer a better result [rather than pull an all nighter or two like I would have done in the past]. For the first time ever I have a waitlist for services I offer, projects that make me feel gaga, a mounting list of first-world problems and desire to create more. BUT this is not to gloat, this is to let you know that 3 weeks ago I was trawling position vacant ads, pondering work that did not excite or even make me feel good, thinking I should lower my prices and just say yes to anything. But … due to a brains trust collective that have guided me through transitioning and starting out yet again … I stuck to my guns. This game is not an easy or consistent one, but knowing there are twists and turns on the rollercoaster makes it just a little easier to manage. Now to turn that rollercoaster into a ferris wheel!
