Acknowledge your opportunities...thrive through your strengths. Especially in today's world, it is very easy to focus on what you can't do, what skills you don't have, or what knowledge is out of your grasp. This immediately puts us in a hole that we spend all of our time and energy trying to dig out of. But what if you flipped it??? My surrounding team just went through some layoffs and since then I've been looking at situations from a lens of "How can my strengths make an impact?" While I don't know everything about the work that needs to be accomplished, I CAN... - #Engage with others to keep their mindset on the positive side - #Drive growth opportunities in areas that I am very comfortable - #EXCEL in what I do so leaders can move their focus to other areas While I'm a huge proponent of #learning and #continuousimprovement, I've started to focus on how my #strengths can make an impact. Where will your strengths take you?

Positivity is paramount! Whatever the reason may be for Today's uncertain economy, it seems we're all diligently trying to persevere. Despite this, I've seen firsthand how positivity ensures forward motion. One example stands out: I've worked with a Director of IT since May, who was caught in layoffs around February. I presented a few roles to him, he chose to move forward with one and progressed to the offer stage, and he loved both the company and project. Ultimately though, he received and accepted another offer $50k higher and at the VP level. I couldn't have been happier! I knew he deserved it, and I gained extensive knowledge by working with him. Just because he didn't find a role through me, didn't mean that my support for his candidacy in the market disappeared. Another example is a client who initially denied business with me during my outreach. I stayed consistent and optimistic about working with them, continuously learning about their needs and how I could provide them the most value. Now, we have an agreement signed and I'm excited to impact their innovative projected growth. These examples only show that "losses" are all based on perception. Everyone won't see success right away, and positive perseverance is key to seeing it at all. Navigating Tough Decisions with Compassion Today, I faced one of the most challenging decisions in my post-military career—informing team members that they would not continue with us in their current roles. While layoffs are never easy, it’s a responsibility that requires empathy, foresight, and a commitment to supporting our team through transitions. I prioritized finding alternative positions for these team members—roles that match their skills and offer the same level of compensation. It’s about respecting their contributions and ensuring a smooth transition to new opportunities. However, I understand that even with alternative options, such news can be challenging to digest. Each person’s journey and aspirations are unique, and change can evoke many emotions. Reflecting on this experience, I’m reminded of the complexities of leadership and decision-making. In combat, decisions often carry life-and-death consequences, making today’s challenges different yet significant in their own right. It’s crucial to approach tough decisions with a blend of pragmatism and empathy. While we must consider business needs, we also strive to uphold dignity and offer support during transitions.
