Most entrepreneurs don't create a startup to chase after the $200 billion net worth of Elon Musk, but to solve a problem. If successful, the rewards, including financial, are many. Similarly, in CrossFit or Jiu-Jitsu, we strive to do our best, knowing we won't end up in the UFC or on the podium at the CrossFit Games. The true reward lies in the attempt and commitment to something so challenging. That's the amazing thing about hard things. #thehardthingabouthardthings #crossfit #jiujitsu #startups https://lnkd.in/gFN4bH_b

I started jiu-jitsu so that I could have my fingernails ripped off, endure multiple knee injuries, and have other bigger, sweaty men sweat directly into my mouth. Not to mention countless 'mat burns', endless soreness in elbows, ankles, and ribs, and a hefty financial investment just so I could teach others how to do it in about 7 years. I mean, not really. But that's also how startups work. https://gymforce.app/ #Resilience #Startups #JiuJitsuLife

CEO & Founder at The Well-being Company & Multi-award winning business Pilates Class UK | Great British Purpose and Start up Entrepreneur of the year Finalist 2023 and 2024
#SouthWalesbusiness shortlisted for Welsh UK StartUp Award 2024 for the second year. Newport-based startup Pilates Class has been named a finalist ahead of the Wales final of the StartUp Awards. The UK StartUp Awards was launched to recognise the booming start-up scene across the UK which has accelerated over the last few years with over 900,000 new businesses founded in the UK in 2023, a 12% increase from the year before. Over 900 businesses have been shortlisted for this year’s UK StartUp Awards and the contribution of these firms - all of which were started in the last three years - is significant, having created nearly 6,000 new jobs since they were established and generating annual sales of £480 million. pilates Class is a UK Pilates Agency founded by Bethan Dando in 2022. The business has been nominated for the Health and Wellbeing StartUp of the Year Award in South Wales, Twice. Bethan, founder of Pilates Class said: "Our expansion symbolises the commitment of leisure clubs to prioritise the mental and physical health of their members and guests. We express deep gratitude to all our clients who have engaged us to deliver services within premier clubs and private studios in South Wales and look forward to expanding nationally." Supported nationally by ScoreApp, GS1 UK, Starling Bank, OVHcloud, GiftRound, Airwallex, the programme will celebrate the achievements of the amazing individuals who have turned an idea into an opportunity and taken the risk to launch a new product or service. The cohort of finalists will be considered for the regional prizes by a panel of seasoned judges with experience founding or supporting entrepreneurial ventures. The winners from each region will then be invited to the first UK final taking place at Ideas Fest, the Glastonbury for Business festival in Tring, Hertfordshire on 12th September 2024. Professor Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, the creator of the UK StartUp Awards, said: “Start-up businesses are the lifeblood of any economy, being responsible for new jobs, innovation and wealth creation across the UK. All the finalists this year represent the best of those entrepreneurs who have spotted an opportunity and through their sheer hard work, talent and perseverance, have created amazing new businesses that are creating real impact in their sectors. Building on the success of previous years, we are now looking to identify the ‘best of the best’ with all the finalists who win their category in their region going on to represent their region at the first ever UK National StartUp Awards final later this year”. @The UK StartUp Awards was created in collaboration with the team behind the Great British Entrepreneur Awards & Community, one of the most successful awards programmes in the UK. The UK StartUp Awards are running for the third year after launching in 2022. Why I too am optimistic about health & fitness tech company, Tonal + some valuable lessons for any start-up, not just health & fitness!- 💰 Setting appropriate expectations with the investment community- You never hear Tonal leadership saying something like "in the future everyone will have a Tonal at home". This tempers expectations (in a good way) which leads into my second point... 📈 Slow and steady growth- I remember learning years ago in business school (I think in Ajay Agrawal's corporate strategy class) about how companies built to last focus on slow and steady growth, rather than "growth at all costs" when they launch and who inevitably burn out (either by running out of money or worse). Tonal's aren't cheap and honestly they probably aren't for everyone and that's fine. But by focusing on that one segment of consumers interested in working out at home (and have the money to do so), it gives the company the focus and discipline for slower and steadier growth, which ultimately positions them well for the long term. All the initiatives mentioned in the Athletech News article help too. :) Krystal Zell Courtney R. Bridging the digital gap in fitness services 📈 As fitness enthusiasts, Sascha Tschabold, Dominik Robellaz, and Fabian Hegg are often to be found in the fitness center, where they have identified gaps in digitalization and potential for improvement in customer service. A thorough market analysis and discussions with customers showed, that the market lacks an “all-in-one” solution for instructors, physiotherapists, team coaches, and personal trainers to organize their coaching. They decided to found their own business PIA fitness | PIA physio in order to target this gap, but also to experience the challenges and the freedom that come with running a start-up. In addition, they found that working is much more fun when you work with friends and put your heart and soul into your own product. 👥 The team has a market-ready product that offers potential customers great added value, but they lack the knowledge and experience to establish the product on the market. That’s where STAGE UP offers valuable insights for the team to improve their skills and to build a network. For the further course of the competition, we wish the team best of luck! 🍀 #startup #businesscreation #entrepreneurship #STAGEUP Artur Baldauf, Beatrice Rüfenacht, Isabelle Hahn, Joëlle Prisi, Danja Rutschi-Marthaler, Simon Nobs, Esther J. 🏃♀️ Fitness is big business. In the US alone, the fitness industry is expected to grow from $32B in 2022 to over $50B by 2028. 🚲 And while certain sports are well-catered to by online communities, such as Strava and Zwift for runners and cyclists, the market is still somewhat fragmented. That’s where Austin-based SweatPals comes in. 💥 🎽 SweatPals, co-founded by CEO Salar Shahini and chief product officer Mandi Zhou, aims to help sports and fitness enthusiasts join communities of like-minded people to play and exercise together. 🌟 Salar shares, “I moved to the US in 2012 and I’ve moved around quite a bit since then. Each time I’ve moved to a new city, I’ve wanted to find local climbing groups, which is my passion, but I’ve always found it really hard.” 💪 Mandi adds, “Sports and fitness is how I’ve made friends as I’ve moved around for education and work.” Those experiences inspired the launch of SweatPals. Now, the company has over 40,000 users, 600+ clubs, and has launched in three cities, with further expansion plans. 🔥 👉 Read more via Forbes: https://lnkd.in/gT52cKfK #fitness #startups #entrepreneurship
