As we celebrate World Architecture Day 2024 with the theme of Empowering the next generation to participate in urban design, I cannot help but reflect on my motivation behind my PhD research on Complex Urban Integration. My research explores how architects can address the socio-spatial integration of migrants, tackling some of the most pressing challenges our cities face today. Architecture isn’t just about designing buildings—it’s about shaping cities that are sustainable, inclusive, and equitable. Through my research, I aim to contribute to the knowledge that helps marginalised communities find their place in urban environments, ensuring our future cities are designed for everyone. #WorldArchitectureDay #UrbanIntegration #PhDResearch #InclusiveCities #SustainableArchitecture #ArchitectsForChange

#RenzoPiano “Architecture is the art of making shelter for communities, not just for individuals, communities… and society are never the same; the world keeps changing, and changes are difficult to swallow for people. Architecture is the mirror of these changes.” Renzo Piano’s statement underscores the essence of architecture as a discipline that transcends individual needs to address the broader requirements of communities. He acknowledges the ever-changing nature of society, suggesting that as the world evolves, people often struggle to adapt to these changes. Architecture, in this context, acts as a reflective surface, capturing and displaying the transformations occurring within society. It serves as both a record of change and a facilitator of adaptation, helping communities navigate and embrace the inevitable shifts in their environments. By mirroring these changes, architecture not only provides physical shelter but also contributes to the cultural and social continuity of communities. #RenzoPiano #Architecture #CommunityShelter #EvolvingSociety #ArchitecturalChange #ReflectingSociety #CulturalContinuity #BuiltEnvironment #DesignForCommunities #ArchitecturalArt #ChangeInArchitecture #SocietalEvolution #ArchitectureAndChange #ArchitecturalMirror

Integrating the existing contexts in the generative urban framework, on which I've been working for my master's thesis. This base framework is designed to be extended for the analysis and optimization of urban neighborhoods, focusing on critical energy and environmental factors. Through this approach, the aim is to identify and implement the best possible mutations for urban areas, ensuring sustainability and efficiency. The final framework will not only advance our understanding of urban planning but will also offer practical solutions for creating greener, more sustainable communities. As I approach the conclusion of my master's program, I am actively looking for opportunities and collaborations in architecture, urban and computational/parameteric design. #urbandesign #computationaldesign #architecture #sustainability #urbanplanning

Happy World Architecture Day! 🏙️ Today, on the first Monday of October, we celebrate the significant role that architecture plays in shaping our world and communities. Established by the International Union of Architects in 1986, World Architecture Day prompts discussions on innovations in architectural practice and the evolving role of architects and designers. Each year, the UIA sets a central theme to guide these conversations. For World Architecture Day 2024, the theme "Empowering the Next Generation to Participate in Urban Design" is a call to action. This theme highlights the vital impact of urban design on the future generation and recognizes the contributions of young architects in building the cities of tomorrow. This year's event focuses on addressing critical challenges faced by urban environments and their repercussions on future generations. The goal is to create cities that are not only environmentally sustainable but also inclusive, meeting the diverse needs of all segments of society. 🌳💡 For more information on World Architecture Day 2024 and how young talent is mobilizing for urban transformation, check out the link below: https://lnkd.in/gTpaxhcW Let's celebrate the power of architecture in shaping a better future for all! 🌆 #WorldArchitectureDay #UrbanDesign #YoungArchitects #Sustainability #Inclusion

The Architecture Today piece ‘Barriers to change’ features some interesting insights into the obstacles hindering the move towards regenerative architecture. As part of Tate + Co's submission to the recently launched Regenerative Architecture Index, we were asked what we consider to be the most significant barriers in our efforts to transition to regenerative practice. Please follow the link below for our response and to read the full article. https://lnkd.in/ekg6Kpuh Our project The Creative Centre at York St. John University is an example of successful regenerative design. For example, the main teaching block incorporates options for multiple, future scenarios. The building also substantially improves biodiversity and has yielded a 53% BNG improvement figure for the city centre site. 🌍 Happy World Architecture Day in Advance! 🏙️ This year’s theme, "Empowering the Next Generation in Participatory Urban Design" underscores the critical role that young people play in shaping the future of our cities. As we continue to tackle urban challenges like affordable housing, pollution, and inequality, the voices of the next generation are more important than ever. From leveraging cutting-edge technology to advocating for greener, more equitable spaces, young urban thinkers are leading the way in creating cities that are built for the future. Now is the time for us to provide the platforms, mentorship, and opportunities they need to actively participate in shaping the environments where we all live, work, and grow. Let’s champion participatory urban design, foster innovation, and work together to build cities that reflect the diverse needs of all their inhabitants. 🌿🏛️ IFASA OAU | UIA - International Union of Architects #WorldArchitectureDay #UrbanPlanning #NextGenDesign #Sustainability #InclusiveCities #YouthEmpowerment #FutureCities

A world Architecture Day perspective. Dear UIA - International Union of Architects Council, As an architecture student, I appreciate the UIA's efforts to celebrate young architects and provide opportunities such as the upcoming UIA Young Architects Competition. However, while the theme of empowering the next generation is inspiring, I feel compelled to voice my concern regarding the broken architectural systems that many young architects face today. Despite the rhetoric of inclusion and participation, the harsh reality for many young professionals is a financial struggle that forces them to divert from their passion for architecture. The systems in place often do not offer the economic stability, mentorship, or opportunities needed to thrive. The profession has increasingly become inaccessible due to exploitative practices, inadequate pay, and a lack of proper support networks. These systemic issues have left many young architects disillusioned and financially unstable, leading them to abandon the field or pursue alternative careers where they feel more valued. The call to action for young architects to participate in urban design and contribute to sustainable development is ambitious, but how can we fully engage when the foundation we stand on is fragile? The profession needs reform beyond competition announcements and symbolic celebrations. We need to address issues such as fair wages, healthy work environments, and meaningful mentorship, ensuring that young architects are not only empowered to create but are also able to thrive financially and personally in this field. While I applaud the UIA’s commitment to showcasing young architects' ideas, let us also ensure that these same architects have the support necessary to build resilient careers within the profession. We must fix the broken systems that are holding us back. Respectfully submitted. To all the young architects out there: Your creativity and passion are essential in shaping the future, but never forget to advocate for your worth. While we are called to build sustainable cities, let us also build a sustainable profession for ourselves one that values our work, time, and potential. Stand strong, push for reform, and together we can reshape not only the urban landscapes but also the architecture systems that support our careers. #architecture #youngarchitects #worldarchitectureday #sustainableprofessions #youngprofessionals
