In businesses of all kinds, small or big, there is one critical defining metric for success. It isn’t having the right business model. It isn’t making a good website. It isn’t even building a robust sales system. It is fostering a very good culture for your team - one that keeps them motivated, happy, and moving in the right direction. Once you ensure this, revenue and profits are subsets of the same. Don’t get this wrong - a good culture isn’t about having a fancy office, table tennis room, and a bunch of free snacks. It is about giving them the stage, letting them take the ownership, and allowing them to do make mistakes and learn from them.

Way down! - Team morale? Sky-high! Your team isn't just names on a payroll. They're your biggest asset. Treat them right, and watch the magic happen! So, what's your team culture like? Sales Teams need support They are not an island that sits outside the normal business It’s so often I see a “them and us” culture around internal teams and external ones. Just because they don’t work from the office doesn’t make them not part of the team. I worked really hard in my last business to get the balance right, I used things like getting the new sales team member to work from the office as part of their induction, so they could get to the know the team and vice versa. It’s important that the sales team know the names and functions within the office as that’s what they’re selling, the product is second, the fact that I could talk about xxx in the Tech Department and how they would help them and then that person actually be who I said they were when the client needed something was magic. Products are boring in the main to talk about but build that sense of belonging and joining your business’ gang and you’re on to something. Think about how the culture is your business is currently and if you want it to be tweaked to a TEAM culture then get in touch. #gotojo

"My team doesn't share their thoughts." This is what I was told when speaking to a PO who booked a chat with me. The reason I share this is I'm sure many people have faced the same problem. Ask yourself this million dollar question.. ↳How well do you know your team? Having catch-ups should be the norm but if I ask you the last time you had a chat with your team members... It's been a while right ? Don't sleep on your team members, take an honest interest in them. Start exploring relationships: 1. When joining a new team 2. When you have new starters 3. When you see changes in behaviour We probably spend more time with our team members than our own families, so take sometime to nurture those relationships. I hope this list helps somebody slow down and think before they just do. I have just taken a moment to review my notes on some work with organisations of all shapes and sizes to come up with this list of 10 painful lessons learned ... that can and should be avoided. 1. Kept the company’s plan a closely guarded secret from staff 2. Non-existent onboarding of new team members 3. Hired people under pressure 4. Failed to ask enough questions in sales conversations 5. Wasted time networking without purpose 6. Kept working with bad advisors far too long! 7. Became obsessed about competition instead of “our” journey 8. Thought partners would grow sales and solve challenges with distribution 9. Failed to pay attention to culture ... which became ugly by itself 10. Got too clever on pricing and confused customers I get it, but its No. 6  that troubles me.  What lies behind it is a perception that switching advisors and getting a new one up the “learning curve“ is a major time suck.  The inertia of “better the devil you know” kicks in ... and time and money are wasted with people one does not respect far less enjoy being around in their company.  The worst of all worlds! Ouch!
