Roles of actuaries Actuaries play a crucial role in various industries, like insurance, finance, consulting, and risk management. Risk Assessment and Management: Actuaries analyze data and use mathematical theories to assess and manage risks for individuals, organizations, and governments. How to become an actuary • After completing intermediate candidates have to fill form of Institute of Actuories of India common entrance test commonly known as ACET. • It is conducted twice a year one in month of June and other in June • After qualifying this test candidates have to appear in 4 more test. (I) This rest consist of 7 papers of core principles. (II) After that 3 paper of core practices. After qualifying these two papers you become associate member of IAI. (III) Last and final paper is consists of 5 papers out of which you have to qualifying in one If you have qualified all these papers then you are all set ready to become a fellow member of IAI. Benefits of being an actuory There are several benefits of being an actuary: 1. High earning profession Actuaries are among the highest-paid professionals in various industries. Their specialized skills and expertise in risk assessment and management provide them with a high salaries and attractive compensation packages. 2. Job security: The demand for actuaries is consistently high due to the critical role they play in managing risks for organizations. As long as risks exist, there will be a need for actuaries. Overall, being an actuary is a great experience in itself.

The Casualty Actuarial Society Election voting process has officially begun! Since embarking on this journey as a candidate for the CAS Board, I've dedicated myself to understanding the needs and concerns of our members. I've interviewed and conversed with more than a dozen members and candidates at various stages of their careers, all to better represent our current and future members. There are two priorities that I would like to tackle as a Board Member: 1. Building Skills for the Future: The CAS should continue to expand our research and education efforts on technical analytics so that Actuaries continue to be sought-after experts in solving technical challenges. Furthermore, the CAS should bolster our education resources and content on how Actuaries can collaborate with other business functions, such as Claims or Underwriting, to drive broader strategic business decisions. 2. Optimizing Candidate Experience: This year, all three Ask the Candidates questions were related to exams and education for candidates. Given the unfortunate outcome of the May 1 exam sitting, this result is fully warranted. I am deeply committed to driving meaningful change on this front, and I want to ensure that our future members are fully supported and set up for success as they continue to pursue their membership with the CAS. Happy 3 years in the Insurance Industry to me! The time has absolutely flown by and I have met some amazing people in the form of colleagues, candidates and clients. The industry is constantly changing and adapting so I wanted to share my 3 main observations from the last 3 years. 1)The Growth of Analytics, Machine Learning and AI Anyone who catches up with me knows how pioneering I believe this area to be and should watch this space for future developments in the Arthur Team… but it's honestly been fascinating to watch the progression of this space. The demand for Actuaries with technical skills in the market is on an exciting trajectory with no sign of easing up. Python and R have been a common occurrence for a while but this demand has been expedited by the introduction of new software like Tyche and HX Renew. The increase of AI and ML is also taking the industry by storm and is creating more diverse positions across the market than there has been traditionally, which leads nicely to my next point. 2) Less Traditional Roles The majority of Actuarial positions are becoming more diverse in their reach which offers Actuaries a well-rounded and varied background with opportunities to become Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) during their careers. The people I speak with can pursue innovative and interesting opportunities whilst gaining experience from new areas in the market. The ongoing impact of these developments is still to be seen, but what is clear, is an increase in collaboration across the insurance industry. This development doesn't appear to be limited to the pure Actuarial functions! Data Science and Analytics are integrating across multiple areas within insurance, which again is a really exciting shift across the industry. 3) And finally, people are starting new positions throughout the year! There are influencing times of the year such as exam sittings / results, holidays, bonus season and reporting periods which have historically created a lull in movement in the market, but I have noticed that activity is becoming more constant and less cyclical, which is influenced by the less traditional opportunities in the market. My MO is always to find you the right job for you and your career regardless of the season, and it's been great supporting people throughout the year. I've had some really interesting conversations with people who are ready for that next step but only for the right position, irrelevant of when it comes their way. This often happens at the senior end of the market and it's great to see people deciding when and what works for them and taking that opportunity that may not always be available. I'm so excited to see what the next 3 years (and more!) hold and how the industry continues to develop.
