Our cities are built of neighborhoods. And our neighborhoods were built with a hundred little things (benches, bike lanes, parks, sidewalks, light posts, flower gardens, cafes, street vendors, etc.). What would happen if we took our dreams to rebuild a better neighborhood and combined it with our ability to do little things? Maybe we could build a better block.
Here are my thoughts on building a better block based on what started in Oak Cliff, Texas (near Dallas) and spread from Portland to Detroit and Melbourne to Tahran.

As we consider how downtown San Francisco can and should look, we must lean into creating green space for residents and visitors alike. I posted recently about the Greater & Greener Urban Parks conference hosted by the City Parks Alliance in Seattle, WA, where I discussed with park, elected, and thought leaders from across North America the value of parks and public spaces in the revitalization of all our downtowns.
For the sake of community health and well-being, resilience, and growth, we need more urban green spaces in downtown San Francisco — much like that envisioned in John King’s recent San Francisco Chronicle piece on an entirely new Embarcadero Plaza park. This is also exactly what The East Cut Community Benefit District aims to do with the upcoming Sports & Dog Park (https://lnkd.in/gYRSbhxS),
and why we are raising $350,000 to begin its construction and finally realize a
decade-long community vision for turning acres of underutilized urban
transportation infrastructure into a neighborhood hub. This work is central to
reimagining downtown San Francisco.

🌟The Renaissance of Riverview Estates 🌟
Nestled in the heart of the city, Riverview Estates was once a forgotten complex, its potential buried under years of neglect. Our mission was clear: to breathe new life into this 15-unit gem and turn it into a thriving community hub.
The Challenge: Riverview Estates was plagued by outdated infrastructure and low occupancy rates. The community’s spirit was dimmed, and the potential for a vibrant, connected neighborhood seemed like a distant dream.
Our Role: As project lead, my focus was not just on revitalizing the structures but on rekindling the community’s spirit. We initiated comprehensive renovations, modernizing each unit while preserving the complex’s unique character. Beyond the physical upgrades, we launched community engagement programs, fostering a sense of belonging among residents.
The Transformation: The transformation was beyond physical. Yes, Riverview Estates now boasts modern amenities, green spaces, and enhanced security, but the true success lies in the laughter heard in the courtyards, the weekend barbecues, and the impromptu coffee chats among neighbors. Occupancy rates soared to 95%, and resident satisfaction ratings hit record highs.
The Value Added: This project wasn’t just a financial win; it was a testament to the power of community. By investing in people as much as in property, we not only enhanced the asset’s value but also created a vibrant community where people are proud to call home.
Riverview Estates stands as a beacon of transformation, showcasing what’s possible when vision, hard work, and a deep commitment to community come together.
