James D. Morrissey Inc. crews have had the hammer down! Heavy rain and gale force winds can’t stop the JDM gangs from moving over 150,000 cy the past few months! Crews are gearing up for the spring weather to start roadway reconstruction on Turnpike mainline. Soundwall post and panels as well as bridge beams are on schedule to start being erected this summer. Overall project description includes the roadway widening and reconstruction of the PA Turnpike in Bucks Country. The work includes roadway reconstruction, bituminous paving, installation of storm water management facilities, including basins, erosion and sedimentation control measures, installation of multiple bridge components, installation of new center median barriers, multiple sound barriers and retaining walls, bridge approach slabs, guiderail, and other miscellaneous related construction activities. Tough situations build strong people / crews! #movingdirt #heavyhighwayconstruction #construction #concrete ##concreteconstruction #constructionlife

Building an extension might seem like a simple project but it’s important to determine the position of any public drains before finalising your plans. Maps of public sewers can usually be obtained via your local water company or council, but they might not be completely up-to-date. If you’re unsure about the location of your drains and how to locate them, you can check with us. Premier Drainage Solutions offers a CCTV survey that will indicate the condition of the drains as well as their location and depth. #Drainage #UKConstruction #SewerConnections #DrainagePlanning #DrainageLicences #MovingSewers

Project Update! The new Anne Street Bridge is now complete. Our Transportation Structures team completed the detailed design for the Replacement of the Anne Street Underpass on Hwy 400 in Barrie and Interchange Reconstruction for future highway expansion for 10 lanes. The bridge was replaced with a 90 m two-span steel box girder bridge with precast deck panels and semi-integral abutments. The demolition work was completed under a single night full closure of Hwy 400 and the bridge replacement work was completed under a full road closure of Anne Street with detour routes, while all lanes were maintained on Hwy 400. The work required utility relocations (Rogers aerial pole, Bell conduit through structure, City of Barrie storm sewer). #mcintoshperry #turningpossibilitiesintoreality #bridgeproject #transportationstructures #highway

Check out the video below for another glimpse of one of the many different projects our skilled crews are completing at Park Construction Company.
Have you ever wondered why some highway projects require a bypass to be built first? Well, it's because it ensures a smooth flow of traffic while the main improvements take place. It also helps to keeps drivers safe in construction zones. 🚧 Currently, we're hard at work building a bypass to County Road 81 near Fargo, North Dakota. Our project work includes 45,000 cubic yards of topsoil striping, 52,000 cubic yards of embankment, and over 9000 tons of asphalt pavement. Once completed, work can begin on the full County Road 81 Improvements Project while this bypass safely navigates traffic around the construction area. 🚗 #constructionprojects #dronevideo

So many things can go wrong on a new construction project. We look for more than double the return on a new build than an existing, income-producing asset. And that probably still isn't enough for all the risks inherent in #newconstruction. The Extra Space Storage we own at 1250 Taylor St NW in DC has two levels of finished space below-grade. The week we excavated, a torrential rainstorm flooded the area and the site became "Lake Taylor." Fortunately, we installed extensive de-watering measures and robust waterproofing. Several years later, we haven't had any more water issues. #selfstorage #constructionindustry #realestatedevelopment

KELLER North America provided solutions for stabilizing slopes and creating deep foundations to facilitate the construction of a culvert that allows wildlife to safely pass underneath a newly built roadway. The context involves the development of Aurum Energy Park, which led to an increase in heavy haul and commuter traffic. As part of the infrastructure development, an 800-meter roadway was constructed to connect major transportation routes. However, this roadway intersected with Clover Bar Creek, an area known for its wildlife. To ensure the safety of the wildlife, designs included a culvert 21.5m (70.5 ft) wide, 8m (26.2 ft) high, and 66m (216.5 ft) long, running diagonally under the roadway. Slope stabilization was required for the embankments approaching the culvert, and deep foundations were required to support the culvert. Given the challenging terrain and extreme winter conditions in COLD Canada, slope stabilization was essential for the embankments leading to the culvert, and strong foundations were needed to support it. Keller tackled this by installing various types of piles using specialized equipment, including auger cast (CFA) piles for the shear key and slope stabilization, as well as additional CFA piles for the culvert foundations. Because of the significant loads involved, it was necessary to install a shear key to support the MSE wall and mitigate lateral settlement. Keller utilized 124 CFA (auger cast) piles for both the shear key and slope stabilization. These piles had a diameter of 1200mm (3.93 ft) and were drilled to a depth of 17m (55.8 ft), with heavy reinforcement. Each full-length cage for the shear key piles weighed approximately 10,000 lbs. and was inserted into the CFA piles using a crane. Additionally, Keller installed 154 CFA piles at the bottom of the ravine, reaching depths of 24m (79 ft) to support the culvert foundations. Detailed planning was essential to ensure safe access for the large equipment needed to install these piles across various benches in the ravine. To verify the effectiveness of the design, multiple pre-construction load tests were conducted, including axial and lateral tests, along with post-construction pile integrity tests. Keller successfully completed the pile installation on schedule, allowing for the continuation of the construction project, including the construction of the MSE wall and the roadway itself!

February 1, 2024: Today is National Texas Day! This day recognizes the 28th state to join the U.S. Some interesting facts about ‘The Lone Star State’ include: · The highest speed limit in the country is observed on a stretch of Texas State Highway 130 between San Antonio and Austin. Here it is allowed to drive up to 85 miles per hour. · The deadliest natural disaster in United States history occurred in Galveston. The Great Galveston Storm of 1900 killed approximately 8,000 people. · The famous phrase “Don’t mess with Texas” was coined by an advertising agency that was responsible for helping the state with its anti-litter campaign. In the 1980s Texas spent $20 million a year cleaning up trash along its highways. · Texas has more species of birds than any other state, which includes screech owls and hummingbirds. The Eastern Extension (Section 32) of the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) connects the PGBT toll road to Interstate 30. FIGG designed the one-mile bridge crossing over Dallas's Lake Ray Hubbard for Texas Department of Transportation as part of this overall project. The superstructure consists of precast prestressed U-shaped beams 54” in depth with an 8” cast-in-place concrete slab on top. The typical deck width is 70', and the span lengths vary from 104’ to 115’. The substructure consists of rectangular reinforced concrete bent caps on top of circular reinforced concrete columns and drilled shafts. #civilengineering #concrete #bridge #texas

Safety Pillar Project Highlight! For the Lyons Road Reconstruction project performed for FDOT District 4 (constructed in 2018-19); TBG improved the safety of this roadway by fixing deficient roadway geometry and implementing a drainage collection and treatment system to solve severe recurring flooding. Our Engineering staff recently compared the initial 2011-2015 crash data to updated data from 2018-2023. The results of our analysis saw: -An overall reduction from 55 to 40 crashes -Injury crashes reduced from 53 (96% of crashes!) to 17 -Wet weather crashes reduced from 22 to 2! -Run-off-the-road crashes reduced from 32 to 15 Our Economics team performed a Benefit-Cost analysis and determined a BC of 1.23 for this project. We're proud of the work we do and how we impact and protect our community.
