Press Gazette's commercial partners CatchMetrics have looked at the UK's top 50 news websites and estimate that slow-loading ads are costing the industry at least £50m a year. The slowest loading sites take eight seconds to load, scuppering the chances that most readers will stick around to act on the commercial content. Jan 2024 vs Jan 2023 for key news publishers - The publishers are falling, and using the news of the publishers, aggregators have risen. For a small monthly MG money, publishers are losing their quality content and premium users to aggregators. I bet the MG/monthly payout from inshorts, MSN news and Dailyhunt is not even 5% of a publisher's revenue, and they still continue to sell their content to aggregators!
