If you’re a woman in the Charlotte-area and don’t know this building—find it. This facility represents a new mindset on mammograms: Spa-like. Comfy chairs. Beautiful art. Soft pink cloth robes. Gentle touch from a physician (you know that matters). Easy parking. A 30-minute visit time.
It's a medical building that considers mammograms: “self-care.”
Kim Henderson, an EVP and Chief Administrative Officer for Novant Health, met me here the other day. I’m obsessed with the center's concept because isn’t that what mammograms should be? Self-care? Why make it difficult to get one?
At the Novant Health Agnes Binder Weisiger Breast Health Center, you can WALK-IN. Just show up.
What a concept.
I’m living in the power of “Bet On Yourself” these last many months and have learned those three words also means taking care of your own health. Especially women, who so often put other family members first.
Which is why I asked Kim if we could get a picture her. I wanted to showcase this facility’s new-age way of thinking.
Kim thought it was a great idea for two reasons: 1] She wants to make sure all ladies are betting on themselves and caring for their well-being, and 2] it could highlight the woman behind the building—Agnes Weisiger.
“Agnes is a woman who we can all learn from,” Kim said. “How she pushes the envelope, cares for others and wants most of all to ensure all woman bet on themselves by getting remarkable self-care.”
What I didn’t ask Kim—surprise, Kim!—is if she’d also be alright with me acknowledging the way she supports other women. Kim is the reason Novant Health is powering our Bet On Yourself Summit. When I launched the Summit months ago, I booked a big venue and sold out in 59-minutes. Then, I stopped.
Really stopped. Took a breath. Sat down. Almost fell over. Had one thought:
What Am I Doing?
Normally, the first step in creating a large, soul-filling event is to lay out your plan and find sponsors. I hadn’t done either of those things. Enter Kim. We didn’t know each other, but she’d heard about the Summit. We played phone tag for a week. When we finally spoke, she said: “Hi, Molly. Tell me more. What is Bet On Yourself?”
After 9-minutes she said, “I want my team involved. We’re in.”
Which led to Novant Health as the Summit's title sponsor and heading up our “Bet On Yourself Family.” (See all members at https://lnkd.in/eGSJgNpx.)
I’m sharing this story because months later, I agree with Kim in highlighting Agnes Weisiger, and remain impressed with Kim as a decision-maker and bridge builder. A female who hears about another female taking a leap of faith and rather than judge, says, “Tell me more.”
This picture shows a facility designed for women to bet on themselves, and a woman lifting up others to live out the power of those words.
Thank you, Kim. Thank you, Novant Health.
And ladies: If you don’t know when your last mammogram was, that means it's time to check.
#BetOnYourself,
-Molly
