Across most of the United States, behavioral health care remains inaccessible to a large portion of the population. While more needs to be done to bridge the gap, one option that's stepping up to fill these unmet needs is behavioral health coaching. While not on par with clinicians or licensed therapists, they can provide patients with some much-needed support. That said, the behavioral health coaching industry lacks comprehensive regulations and standards, requiring patients to do additional research. Just reading through the abstract and I see too many issues with this supposed blueprint. It’s not a blueprint it’s enabling a failing system by keeping bad habits en toe. Focus needs to lead away from Social Work and onto Mental Health Counselors instead. Social Workers are too busy trying to be supervisors and are usually ill equipped to properly treat a range of symptoms. I would know, every social worker I’ve encountered has told me they weren’t trained in the modalities I needed for proper treatment and because of such I’ve done all my own therapy instead. If you all were really interested in being a “blueprint” you’d recognize your direction as further faulty and not actually anything special or new.

In early 2023, Massachusetts began implementing its Roadmap for Behavioral Health Reform, a sweeping set of changes aimed at simplifying access and entry to the state’s outpatient #behavioralhealth care system for all Massachusetts residents. In a new issue brief prepared with support from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation and based on input from select Massachusetts stakeholders and early implementation data, Manatt Health’s Stephanie Anthony, Elizabeth Boyes, Jocelyn Guyer and Natassia Rozario describe the key components of the Roadmap and how they are intended to improve access to behavioral health care services. The report also provides an update on implementation of the Roadmap, describes early successes and challenges, and identifies opportunities to strengthen implementation moving forward.
