How many police supervisors are actively using BWC footage to provide valuable feedback to their team or agency? This is a crucial aspect of fostering continuous improvement in our team and profession. Imagine the challenge of discussing your own performance, especially when it's less than optimal, in front of your colleagues after a high-stress event. This isn't just about acknowledging your failures, it's a pathway to excellence for the team and for you as an individual professional. Here is a U10 football team. These young athletes review their BWC "game footage" and their coach, "the supervisor", provides essential feedback in front of the whole team. The message is straightforward: If 10-year-olds can embrace this process, so can our adult police officers. Growth is not comfortable, but it can help lead to excellence. When I led a specialized team, after every major event, we gathered as a unit to openly share our individual shortcomings and ways to improve. I initiated these discussions by first addressing my own areas where I could have done better. It's not always easy, but it's a vital component of professional growth and organizational success. Furthermore, in the police profession, the moment you believe you know it all, you're doing yourself and your team a disservice. It's a constant journey of learning and improvement that makes us stronger.
