I think the same ideology can be applied to hiring someone, as well. You know what you want when a position opens up. You write the KPI. Resume sniffers weed through the ones that don't match word for word. This draws heavily on the tried and true abilities as it's seen on paper, not the humanistic approach to adaptability and a learning propensity. So when comes time for the interview, the interviewers are looking for the tried and true paper bound individual.

It can definitely be tough watching your team through their learning process on a new task, but the end is you end up with a competent and more confident employee who feels you trust them to do a task they know you can do. Empowering your team to help them grow will never be a wrong choice.

Delegating tasks vs. delegating responsibility… a difference that requires mindfulness and determination. One way to tell the difference, as Simon points out, is with tasks you need the delegate to get it right and you have to tell them how to do it different if they don’t. If you delegate responsibility, however, the delegate can make mistakes and learn and turn to mentors without fear to learn how to improve. But what if you’re not sure if such trust is warranted? Letting go of a task is usually more difficult than the task itself. Delegation requires that we prepare and equip others to do what we've been doing. It requires time, communication, and teaching. But that's exactly what a good leader does; prepare and equip others.
