By the end of this year, I wonder how many people will be chalking up any layoffs to AI, and how true that assumption will be. "Experts struggle to get an accurate picture of just how many jobs are being eliminated as AI rapidly advances." #Bloomberg #YahooFinance #AIJournalism #AI #Layoffs #ResponsibleAI

Nearly 4 in 10 business leaders said layoffs are happening to replace workers with AI. "Because AI continues to be a reason for layoffs, take time to learn how to leverage AI in your position and which AI programs might impact your work the most." https://lnkd.in/gx2j-FTm Unfortunately, AI is starting to replace humans and it's a great time to expand our other skills. While AI is a great tool for companies, it's affecting more and more individuals. To prepare for the worst possible outcome, I went back to coaching weekends this week, and being around humans felt amazing. Maybe AI will one day be able to motivate you to get in shape but it will never empathize with a human... unless it needs an oil change and it develops feelings. 🤔 What I'm getting to is that as more companies decide to take the unethical route of "laying off" employees with little to no notice, it's time for people to find something they're good at outside their current jobs and explore that. We're more than worker bees and our passions can become an income source too. #FindYourWhy #AI

Newsweek: Massive Layoffs Are Coming in 2024. 4/10 said they are going to lay off employees and replace workers with AI. AI is Consequential. I recommend you learn AI as fast as possible: -Adopt one new tool a month that’s related to your career. -Taking AI training courses, I took a Stanford extended education class. -Demonstrate at your company you seek to be one of the AI leaders. -If you do get let go, you need to know AI anyways, both for your next job or if you decide to start a company. -If you do not get laid off, more work is coming your way, so you need to use AI to be productive.

For all the hype, applied AI is still a small slice of company usage. There’s a new crop of strategists and experts as every hype cycle produces but the real heavy lifting will take solving problems and measurable outcomes. This is a clickbait headline that reflects the failure of the digital media evolution to gain and hold engagement. Remember when that was going to replace all the marketing jobs? We can do better this cycle. #aihype #hypecycle #clickbait

AI Layoffs Arriving Soon If your job can be easily replaced by current AI technology though, it might be time to worry. Nearly four in 10 business leaders said layoffs are happening to replace workers with AI. "Because AI continues to be a reason for layoffs, take time to learn how to leverage AI in your position and which AI programs might impact your work the most," Toothacre said. "Learn about them and become the 'go-to' person. You want to be the employee your manager can't imagine going on without." Steven Chizen, a California based employment attorney, said layoffs are typically based on some combination of business needs, job redundancy and performance. But there are still steps you can take to make your departure from your company less likely. "Workers should always ask themselves, 'How can I make myself indispensable?' Then, when an inevitable layoff arrives, they will be lower on the list of potentially impacted employees." Chizen told Newsweek. With the job market likely to be unstable in 2024, workers will still need to network and put feelers out in case they are indeed let go, Chizen added.

I hope the trend of layoffs doesn't continue in 2024. I understand that big companies are laying off employees due to: - The rise of AI technology. - Company budget constraints. - Employees' skills do not match the job description. However, every job, no matter how big or small, will evolve according to demands and needs. But that doesn't mean a company should randomly give notice to employees. Give them time to figure things out. Meanwhile, see if you can hire them for something else. 01 If AI is doing its work, see if you need them to handle the AI work. 02 Loyal employees work hard to build a company. See if you can offer them monetary benefits or courses to enhance their knowledge (non-monetary benefits). 03 Consider creating cross-functional teams, retraining for different roles, and offering lateral transfers. I know - Covid - Country wars - Economic slowdowns and many other factors are affecting our country. But be humane enough to help your workers survive. After all, we pledge that all Indians are my brothers and sisters. Protect their well-being with the best you can do. That's it. PS: What are your views on employee layoffs? Have you come across any steps taken by companies to mitigate the impact? PPS: Follow me Shravan for daily motivation on your feed. #BusinessLeader #Layoffs #Entrepreneur

I see many simplistic explanations of layoffs within the tech sector. Boosting share value is an insufficient explanation. 1) Consumer demand is shifting, and companies must adapt. 2) Companies are laying off marginally productive workers, but many companies will hire AI-related specialist to develop customized applications. 3) Tech companies have made enormous investments in AI-related innovations, significantly increasing their R&D budgets, and planning integration of various AI software throughout their enterprises. 4) Initial AI stock investments have involved significant risks with some irrational exuberance, as firms seek to become first to the market, but many companies have failed to produce products and profits thus far, placing all companies under more shareholder pressure to produce profitability as soon as possible (e.g., cut marginal workers or marginal production now). 5) By raising stock values, companies elicit more trading, providing them new, much-needed capital to invest in AI-R&D. 6) Some tech companies are looking forward to advances in quantum computing and energy efficiency and capacity, as necessary corollaries to AI systems. Greed is not the moralistic answer. AI has generated hypercompetition globally. Those that do not act now will cease to exist later.

Well-known marketing professor and media impresario Scott Galloway has a theory as to what’s behind the layoffs: AI. The catch is many executives are hesitant to admit they’re laying off employees with the intent of replacing their jobs with artificial intelligence. "My thesis is that firms (notably tech companies) have also discovered a weight loss drug and are also being coy about it,” Galloway writes on his blog No Malice, No Mercy. "Recent financial news features two stories: layoffs and record profits. These are related.” My thoughts are that AI is and has already contribute to job attrition it's going to be another issue how companies are willing to convey that message.
All the tech layoffs are because AI is like ‘corporate Ozempic’—it trims the fat and you keep the fact you’re using it a secret, says marketing guru Scott Galloway
