Buying a $10-$100m Brand 🛒 or $1m- $10m SaaS biz this year.

Solo Brands ($107m) needs to divest Chubbies Shorts. Why does a fire pit biz need a short shorts brand? Solo Brands is -50% in the past week. With a $107m market cap. There are so many better homes for Chubbies + the Solo Brands portfolio play isn’t working. Solo needs to set Chubbies free to be the ‘Murica loving Apparel powerhouse it was always meant to be. Solo Brands needs to get profitable selling what they’re meant to. Fire pits to outdoorsy people who like to barbecue. #shopify

Listened to their earnings call. They kept talking about high NPS scores in all their portfolio companies but I don't think I ever actually heard what the scores were.

Their stock shares have been absolutely hammered. I'm waiting for you to buy it and resurrect it to glory so I can eventually sell my stock LOL

They also own Oru Kayak and ISLE. That's where Chubbies Shorts fits in.

The team at Chubbies is executing on all cylinders. I say, give them and the folks at DTC time to operate. Truly differentiated brand building takes time & is non-linear by nature. Interesting idea nonetheless…

To answer your first question, when you have cash to spend, needing additional top line revenue and plan a liquidity event, you make decisions based on business, not necessarily brand alignment. Solo had one heck of an ecom engine and it’s hard to argue that Chubbies couldn’t have plugged into that machine and been successful. But we all know timing is everything, and sadly the acquisitions came at a time where everything was trending north and shortly after they went public the market began to change. As an armchair quarterback, it’s easy to question, but the answer lies somewhere between we’ll never know and someone made real money 🤣.
