Had a fantastic meet-up today with Matty Lewis who heads up York-based The Fortus Foundation! 🙌 The Fortus Foundation was recently set up with a passion to reach the ‘unknowns’ – the grass roots charity organisations across Yorkshire who lack visibility and resource to grow. The Uk charity sector does amazing things, but due to certain red tape and administrative burden, many funding mechanisms are excluding these tiny but mighty organisations. It’s amazing what they’re doing to support small local charities that struggle to get grants or funding. Today's International Day of Charity acknowledges the role of charity in alleviating the worst of human crises. It highlights the contribution of these organisations to more resilient and inclusive societies. - 168,893 charities were registered with the UK Charity Commission as at March 2023 - Charities in the UK spend over £40bn per year - They employ over 827,000 people - 80% of voluntary sector organisations are micro and small, with incomes of less than £100k.
