Once more into the fray! The last time I touched anything to do with math or statistics, the year was 2002. The result was a C- and a personal oath to never have to deal with math again. But no belief can stand the test of time. Especially when it is rooted in comfort-based decisions. As I embark on this next semester in our Columbia University Human Capital Management program, the material is sure to push me outside my comfort zone. It’s about value-based discomfort. Being uncomfortable for no reason is reckless and ROI negative, but discomfort that is tied to deliberate growth or a value-aligned endstate is a worthy pursuit. I am keenly aware of my capabilities and limitations as a Talent practitioner. To be the best teammate and leader I can, it is time to enter the ring with those limitations. After all, how can I push my team members to challenge themselves in unknown territories if I am unwilling to go there myself? Grateful for this chance to grow and excited for this challenge. #bringthenoise #bringonthemath
Naked statistics was great!
Loving this Jesse! We are of the same mind, but challenge accepted. Lets rise to the occasion!
“Get comfortable being uncomfortable” - one of the earliest and best lessons I learned in my career and you clearly walking the walk. Like so many have said, you’ve got this. Between your faculty, alumni, fellow students and many other resources, feel confident that you’ll not just make it through, but actually understand the concepts.
Hey, I know those books! Looking forward to the journey with you. I love this material. I hope you will by the end as well.
Good luck with that. I was doing a non-thesis Master's in grad school; so I had to take stat. Had I done a thesis Master's, I wouldn't have needed to take stat. Go figure. And the only thing I remember from stat came from an illustration in the textbook, which was captioned, "Most people use statistics the way a drunk uses a light pole -- more for support than illumination."
These look familiar ;) You’ll enjoy each! Useful and very applicable each day.
I can say with certainty - you got this, Jesse!
