Once again this year, the BLX Internship Program has a major problem on its hands: Too many talented, diverse interns and not enough firms to take them on. The program was founded in late 2020 by a group of four advisors who wanted to see the industry more accurately reflect the nation it serves. Known as BLX for short, the organization's goal is to provide an opportunity for underrepresented financial planners to secure internships at independent financial planning firms. "Unfortunately, we won't be able to place every applicant because we just don't have that many firms," co-founder Luis Rosa said. "The way it's looking with the number of applications, even if half are qualified applicants, we're still only able to place about a fraction of the qualified applicants." I listened to Wendell Chambliss during the ASBA Internship Kickoff Event that paired 38 UAB students with 30 local minority small business owners. He encouraged the interns with the following: 1. Do your best and be your best. 2. Learn to say, “I don't know.” 3. If you say you're going to do something, do it. 4. Be your authentic self. 5. Be inclusive and respectful of others. 6. Leverage your differences for the benefit of all.

🎉 Exciting news 🎉 Our international innovative ‘DreamBig@WTW’ program has launched in its second year. This intensive program is delivered in partnership with WTW a leading global advisory and broking solutions company. DreamBig@WTW is a unique three-year program that supports young people aged 15-18, from marginalised communities in the United Kingdom to develop their business and life skills. Our mentees will have access to skills-based training, learning about all aspects of WTW’s People, Risk, and Capital business segments – including the vital skills of problem-solving, data analytics, and communication. Urban Synergy and WTW mentors will meet with youth monthly during the school year to help them build confidence to ‘dream big’ and develop skills in pursuing their future careers. The program also offers paid summer internships within a line of business at WTW and guidance to reinvest skills in their communities.
