Erin and her podcast about leaders setting an example is so spot on. As a Leadership Development Executive at Large Companies we spoke of this as "The Shadow of the Leader"... the shadow you cast on your team will be the most powerful thing you can do to set expectations for your team and model what you want them to be like. However, conversely if you don't practice what you preach you can quickly lose the respect of the team.. and your leadership shadow will work against you. Best of luck.. keep up the great work Erin.

These are important steps to take in order to create a psychologically safe workplace! That is what keeps turnover rate down, whether it’s care partners or managers. Some of the most important things a leader can do is model for their team that we (individually) are not perfect. It means acknowledging limitations, focusing on strengths, and promoting collaboration. The most underrated and least talked about skill to have in your personal life and your professional life... 👉 Give in order to receive. When you give to your team what you want/need, you are training your team to do the same for themself and that it is ok to realize you don't have to be everything to everyone. As the leader, you have to set the tone. Your team will mirror your effort, your sacrifices and your actions. Be an example of how it is ok ask for help, offset some extra hours worked with a late morning arrival or early afternoon exit, and not calling the department director when you are the weekend manager on duty. (unless absolutely necessary) I am here to tell you, it works! Humility, transparency and the ability to admit mistakes is the highest level of self awareness that leaders require to build inclusive and engaged teams. Leadership is not about appearing or acting infallible but instead, creating an environment where people feel that it's ok to fail.
