School's back in session at Independence Academy! 🎒 Adams 12 Five Star Schools celebrated the grand opening of its newest facility today. This incredible project included demolishing the old Early Childhood Education Center and constructing a state-of-the-art 14,400 square foot building for grades 6-12. Designed by Hord Coplan Macht, the new facility is tailored for special education, featuring sound-absorbing materials and high-durability, wear-resistant features. “Our passion and pride lie in being a great school builder for over 37 years,” said Diego Rodriguez, JHL Project Manager. “We are incredibly thankful to Adams 12 for trusting us with delivering this project. This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication of the entire Adams 12 staff, construction team, IA faculty, design team, and all our trade partners. This project stands as a testament to our commitment to creating safe, supportive, and enriching environments for all students.” Learn more about this project here: https://lnkd.in/ghEFSPQJ #BuildingColoradosFuture

Great to see that this was resolved with the correct solution. The plan to move to UB during City's renovation was a no brainer that should never have been in doubt. It is disconcerting that some members of BCPS's school board threatened to stop this innovative solution. In it's 185-year history, City has served students from every corner of the city. BCPS proposed a swing space school at 5001 Sinclair Lane - as far east as you can go in the city without being in eastern Baltimore County. Getting there would have been difficult even for students with access to cars or parents who drive them to school. For the majority of students - who rely on MTA buses to get to school - the commuting times would have been unsustainable. For students coming from northwest, west, southwest, and south Baltimore the commute times would have been so difficult that they would have forced students to choose other high schools. Hundreds of academically talented Baltimore children - many from disadvantaged backgrounds - would have been denied access to a premier college prep high school and its renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum. BCPS's proposed swing school required $24 million dollars of upgrades to accommodate high school students; upgrades that would have little usefulness once City's renovation was complete. Thus, those improvements would have been an inefficient use of school construction funds and not at all in keeping with sustainable building practices. Such a relief that the sensible choice was made. CITY Forever!
I have a rising junior at Baltimore City College and have been close to this developing story. The collaboration of our anchor intuitions on this matter has been inspiring. The 3-year displacement of kids from the "Castle on the Hill" would be so much worse if there was not an attractive option for the kids in the interim and could have been devastating for the long term viability of the school. This is one of the best high schools in the State, and Baltimore Polytechnic Institute people, don't @ me on this, my other kids is a Poly kid and I love you too. https://lnkd.in/ejtqjVQs

Director at Matt Messias Impact Leadership Ltd; LeadershipCoach; Mental Health First Aid Instructor (MHFA England)
The work we’re doing is so important for young people- to give them confidence that they can succeed in a challenging, complex, and competitive world. Loving this #collaboration #partnership #growthmindset
Founder and Chief Executive at Class Of Your Own Limited (COYO) President, Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors 2024 Social Entrepreneur and Built Environment Education Evangelist
There will be many young people having a good lie in this morning, breathing a huge sigh of relief now that they have their exam results. Today is the first day of a new life that for many, will be defined by the grades they received. Some will have their next move already figured out, many won’t. Some will ask for help, some won’t know who to turn to. Some won’t even realise they need it. Working with teachers and students for the last 20 years (and indeed reflecting on my own experiences at school) has taught me that the development of future-focused skills, emotional intelligence and resilience is essential in preparing children and young people for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century construction industry. So, it’s been great to work with the excellent Matt Messias over the past few months to help realise our ‘Resilient Future Construction Leaders” programme of Continuous Professional Development; that promotes a high-performance culture for our students - the ‘future’ of construction. Matt and I really enjoyed catching up with Dan Heffernan from AtkinsRéalis yesterday, to update him on our progress. When I put out my own call for help, Dan was there straight away to back our plan, and no surprise - where young people and opportunities are concerned, he shares my determination! Matt has now met with nearly all our pilot schools and feedback has been excellent so far - thank you to teachers and students at Sir George Monoux College, Stratford upon Avon School, King Ecgbert School, Cronton Sixth Form College, Alder Grange School, Hautlieu School, Highlands College, Jersey for sharing their thoughts - and also at Balwearie High and Southmoor Academy, where visits are planned next month. Thanks to my two giants of social impact, we’re well on track to develop the next phase of our programme for #DEC schools everywhere, supporting the well-being and professional development of our students - and everyone connected to them. #equity #education #wellbeing #skills #behaviour #confidence #resilience #socialimpact #REALvalue #children #future

The Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) is making strides with its $350 million capital construction bond, approved by voters in 2022. This massive initiative is set to revamp aging buildings, including New Vista High School, and new construction like a much-needed elementary school in Erie. Personal reflection: As someone deeply invested in community growth and infrastructure, I find BVSD's holistic approach commendable. When I hear about asbestos removal and expanded Career and Technical Education (CTE) facilities, it resonates with the importance of providing safe and modern learning environments. Key highlights include: - $42 million in summer projects across 12 schools. - Enhancements in engineering and woodshop spaces at Centaurus High School. - New ADA-compliant playground surfaces at multiple elementary schools. - Modernized tech and art rooms, along with a centralized CTE information hub at Broomfield Heights Middle School. Questions for you: 1. How do you think infrastructure improvements impact student performance and community engagement? 2. What are some ways your community is investing in educational facilities? Investing in our schools means investing in our future. Let's support these initiatives and share ideas to foster an even brighter future for our students. #Education #CommunityDevelopment #SchoolInfrastructure #BoulderValley #BVSD #TechnicalEducation

Nichehills proudly announces our contribution to the KwaraLEARN program, an initiative to advance educational excellence across Kwara State. Our latest project focuses on enhancing primary school environments, recognizing the critical role of well-designed, safe, and stimulating spaces in shaping students' educational experiences. Research continually shows that a thoughtfully crafted learning environment can significantly elevate students' ability to engage, learn, and thrive, especially at the primary level, where foundational skills and attitudes toward education are formed. Despite commendable progress in various sectors, many of our primary schools still fall short of the standards necessary for achieving optimal educational outcomes. The current state of these schools does not reflect the high aspirations we hold for our children's futures. In response, Nichehills has developed a forward-thinking prototype that aligns with the state's goals, demonstrating our commitment to creating school environments that foster high-quality, 21st-century education. We believe that these efforts will have a profound impact on student's future academic success and personal development. As Frank Lloyd Wright said, "The school building is more than just a place for education; it should be an environment that encourages learning and inspires the young mind." #schoolarchitecture #architects #sdggoals #education

As the Community College Facility Coalition's Annual Conference approaches this November 6-8, we’re proud to be part of a community dedicated to supporting the facility needs of California's community colleges. CCFC is a statewide association composed of districts and organizations—facility planners, architects, contractors, and more—who collaborate to create spaces that serve the evolving needs of students. One critical area of focus is Modular Student Housing: An Affordable Option for Community Colleges. With only 11 of California’s 116 community colleges offering student housing, there’s an increasing demand for low-rent housing on or near campus. The 2022 state budget addressed this need with a $1.4 billion earmark for student dorms, with more funding expected for future housing development. Modular construction is stepping in as a fast, affordable solution. Instead of costly and disruptive renovations, modular housing units provide a ground-up solution—allowing colleges to increase housing capacity at a lower cost per bed quickly. AMS modular housing designs are customizable, featuring student-centered layouts, modern amenities, and flexible configurations for any site, whether traditional dorms or apartment-style housing. Let’s work together to address student housing insecurity and create spaces where students can thrive. #CCFC #CCFC2024 #ModularHousing #StudentHousing #CommunityColleges #AffordableHousing #AMS #ModularConstruction #Education #HousingSolutions

It all begins with a long range plan and vision, but the most valuable ingrediant for success is leadership and commitment to considering student needs first as a guiding principle throughout the process. #studentsfirst #educationalexperience #longrangeplan #schooldesign #dlrgroup
Over the course of four years, Barrington 220 School District in Illinois has dedicated its efforts to enhancing the educational experience through ambitious bond projects. This involves improvements across 12 schools including one high school, two middle schools, eight elementary schools, and an early education center. This expansion addresses the growing enrollment needs, marking the end of a decade-long reliance on temporary portable classrooms. Students have the freedom to choose where they work thanks to seamless connections between main learning spaces, adjacent breakout areas, and collaborative corridors. Did you know over half of all U.S. public schools are in need of renovations, the cost of which is estimated at nearly $200 billion? But how can jurisdictions make the case for investing in school modernization, and what guidance is there for designers and school districts to effectively spend the forecasted billions of modernization dollars to achieve their core mission of educating children for life in the 21st century? I’m so pleased to announce there’s new research available to help! I teamed with some amazing colleagues at Perkins Eastman and Drexel University to conduct the “Addressing a Multi-Billion Dollar Challenge” study, sponsored by The American Institute of Architects (AIA) College of Fellows #LatrobePrize and J+J Flooring. We found that modernized schools outperformed non-modernized schools in a statistically significant manner across multiple factors.
