The fourth and final post in our “Breathe the Mission into your Fundraising Event” series. If you haven’t viewed our last three posts and videos, please go back and review to fully understand this specific post. We started this series with that special moment watching the children at Academy Prep Centers for Education passionately saying that daily convocation in the school hall. We then saw the teachers, staff, and alumni leading the guests at the Gala event in reciting that convocation. And how about that impactful video that was shown before the Bid from the Heart (Paddle Raise)? Now it's GO time. Time to maximize the emotional impact and transform emotion into giving. At Auction Horizon, we believe everything that happens on the fundraising stage should be with the intent of maximizing fundraising potential and building giving momentum. The wording is intentional. Gestures are intentional. Energy is intentional. Emotion is intentional. We also know that time is of the essence when it comes to maximizing the money raised. For this reason, we work very closely with the client on timing and scripting. Adrian and Da’Shaun, the alumni featured in the impact video shared in yesterday’s post, were able to attend the event amid their busy schedules. The big question was: How do we incorporate these two gentlemen into the giving moment after the very impactful video without losing momentum and too much very precious fundraising time? The result can be seen in this video. Adrian and Da’Shaun walked onto that stage after the video and became part of the fundraising team. The positioning on stage was intentional. The scripting was intentional. They opened the door for Tarryn to introduce that first big level and maximize the power of the give at $25,000. The final part of breathing that Mission into the audience. The result? $125,000 raised on the first level of giving. A few hundred thousand dollars raised over the remaining levels. "Where on the field is the $1 I'm paying for soda?" A famous scene from Moneyball where newly acquired DH David Justice asks why General Manager Billy Beane charges for soda in the club house. Jonah Hill's fictionalized character Peter Brand replies that "Billy likes to keep the money on the field" While the ownership of the soon to be Las Vegas A's is notoriously stingy, this scene was actually total creative liberty but it made a point that is relatable to many who work in the nonprofit world. When staff at nonprofits are forced to work with broken chairs, slow computers, and chronic understaffing, these things don't actually put more money into the program. They're symbolic sacrafices to demonstrate commitment to fans (donors) and more often than not management. There's a reason professional sports teams don't try and save money by having their players workout at local High School gyms. The reputational damage would make it more difficult to recruit players. What do we think it does to employee recruitment and retention in the nonprofit sector when the industry is defined by symbolic (and sometimes quite literal) vows of poverty? Great missions require great people and resources that allow them to perform at their best. Your soda money doesn't end up back on the field but it can pull money off of it if your badge of honor sacrafices conribute to employee turnover.

Coming into 2024, I set myself a few simple goals to try and improve myself and the lives of the people around me. One of my personal goals was to continue to do what I love and to finish each of the Abbott World Marathon Majors (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York). Not only have I been fortunate enough to secure my spot in each race, but I have also been given the opportunity to raise money for a few great organizations. The organizations I will be running for are Boston Scores, Save the Rhino International, and Children for a better World e.V.. The focus of these organizations are to positively mentor the children of Boston both academically and athletically through soccer, to reduce animal poaching, and to provide equal academic and social opportunity to children.   That being said… I have set myself the task of fundraising money for each of these organizations and I need your help!   This week, for the Divisional Round of the NFL playoffs, I will be running football squares. Don’t know how to play? Don’t worry, it’s really easy.   How to play: A 10x10 grid will be set up with a different team on each respective axis. On Friday, January 19, 2024, I will randomly generate numbers 0-9 and assign them specific rows and columns. At the end of each quarter, the person whose name occupies the cell with the matching score (ex. If the score is 17-10, the winning square will occur at the intersection of 7 and 0) will win a cash prize. There will be two grids:           - AFC board for the Ravens and Texans game ($5/square buy-in) - NFC board for the 49ers and Packers game ($10/square buy-in) All you must do to get involved is Venmo me @Noah-Barney-2 with your square requests and I will enter you into the game.
