This really made me pause and reflect on my own thoughts and judgements about the choices people make. - Why is healthcare tied to our jobs? A number of the folks in the group (myself included) are either going through a transition or in a non traditional work situation...is healthcare coverage a carrot that keeps people in a traditional W2 workplace that may be toxic or is holding them back from doing something they love? - Last, can we discuss why the PHQ9 (one of the most widely adopted and used tools to measure depression) was developed by Pfizer. Are we really "ok" with a big drug company developing the scale we all use? How do we feel about the conflict of interest. It's become clear to me that in navigating the complexity of cannabis policy and industry, our collective experience mirrors something much deeper and more personal than the typical business challenges. It's akin to being in an abusive relationship where our fears are minimized, our passions are ridiculed, and our calls for rational policy are met with resistance. This long-term exposure to systemic challenges has left many of us exhibiting signs akin to C-PTSD, manifesting in heightened aggression and hostility, even towards one another. (raises a guilty hand) We are, in essence, a community of traumatized individuals striving to pioneer and sustain an industry against a backdrop of societal and regulatory gaslighting. This analogy isn't just about eliciting sympathy; it's about acknowledging the emotional toll of our journey. We must recognize these signs of collective trauma not as weaknesses but as indicators of our resilience and passion. Understanding this dynamic is the first step toward healing. By recognizing the shared nature of our trauma, we can begin to approach each other with more empathy, patience, and support. It’s time for us to come together, offer a helping hand to our peers, and remind ourselves that beneath the business models and regulations, we are a community of human beings united by a common goal. Let’s use this understanding to foster a more supportive, collaborative, and empathetic cannabis industry. Only then can we begin to heal and move forward together, stronger and more united than before. I love this plant. My predictions for the cannabis industry in 2024: 1. My friends will still ask me how much weed I smoke at MJ Biz and other conferences. It will still be none. I smoke none. I bring business cards and shake hands and say autistic things and then go to bed. 2. Budtenders will be high. Deal with it! If they stop, they won't be able to sell your products anymore. Plus, they're kinda funny. 3. Your mom will try weed. And she'll like it. She'll remember what it was like in the good ol' days and stop pressuring you to have children because she'll realize having YOU is what stopped the fun — not the government's war on drugs. 4. A new vendor will try to teach you what a terpene is and they will be wrong. It will be funny, and then you will ask them to leave. 5. A new cannabinoid will come out and if you embrace it and market it with all the claims it makes instead of being snooty you will make money from it. If you don't believe me, google CBG. It cured my autism. 6. Your dad will try weed, and then he'll subscribe to my "other" account. My dad will remain in the wind. That's fine. 7. A new SEO company will try to tell you your website, which is stellar, needs a free audit and their sick-ass backlinks. They will also try to teach you what SEO is and they will be wrong. deeproots partners is right. 8. A new edible will come out that lets you go comatose for 72 hours and when you wake up you forget what METRC is and have to start all over. But hey, you'll be so well-rested. 9. My comedy show, "Dime Bag Comedy", will be so successful we will use the profits to build a new events space on the moon and do comedy there. With weed! Because we will have discovered that it creates a terra firmed atmosphere in place of oxygen. 10. Something, something, your mom again. Fin.
