The US government has recently unveiled its ambitious plan for combatting the plastics pollution. The plan aims to phase out all single-use plastics across US federal government agencies by 2035 and all single-use plastic products in foodservice, packaging, and events by 2027. This is a great step in the right direction. However, just like the Global Plastics Treaty that's currently being discussed, there is an over-emphasis on recycling and reliance on a potentially unrealistic amount of behavioral change. Words like 'recycling' and 'recyclable' are mentioned 172 times in the document detailing the government's plan, while 'compostable' and 'composting' are mentioned only 11 times. A more powerful strategy should rely on all the tools currently available in our arsenal - petrochemical plastics recycling, improving recycling infrastructure, striving to change the 'single-use mentality', AND developing production capacities for compostable materials such as PHAs, their copolymers and other bioplastics. #plastics #bioplastics #recycling #sustainability #plasticspollution #greeneconomy #circularity #singleuseplastics

As an advanced recycling innovator, we have a keen eye on legislation that will help us scale our technology to divert plastic waste from landfills and our environment. The introduction of the bi-partisan Accelerating a Circular Economy for Plastics and Recycling Innovation Act by Representatives Larry Bucshon (R-IN) and Don Davis (D-NC), aims to modernize the nation’s recycling infrastructure, spur innovation and reduce plastic waste. It recognizes the essential role plastic material plays in our daily lives and the need to develop end markets for recycled material. https://lnkd.in/dCs9-dre #resynergi #circularity #advancedrecycling #circulareconomy #plasticcircularity #plasticrecycling #cleaner #recycling #sustainability #chemicalrecycling

Plastic recycling has been touted as an environmental solution for years, but a recent report from the Center for Climate Integrity suggests otherwise. The report reveals that over 99% of plastics are produced using fossil fuels, and the majority cannot be recycled into entirely new products. In fact, viable end markets only exist for a select few types of plastic containers. This information has been documented by the Environmental Protection Agency for at least three decades. It's time for plastic producers to acknowledge the reality of the situation and explore alternative solutions. #environment #sustainability #recycling

Here are some of the recycled plastic board offcuts from the Vranch House Sensory Path Proejct. One of the great benefits of using the recycled plastics boards from DCW Polymers is that all the offcuts can be re-processed and made back into full length boards again. This prevents them from going into landfill or incineration, but it also reduces the carbon footprint of the product. These small efforts are all part of our ongoing commitment of being ESGmark® certified and to improve our Environmental, Social and Governance practices. #RecycledPlastics #Sustainability #SustainablePractices #EnvironmentalImpact #ESG #GetHandsOn

Landscaping, gardening and all things green. I talk about rootball anchoring to support and grow semi to fully mature trees and palms.
'“Plastics are inherently incompatible with a circular economy,” the global environmental network said (Greenpeace) in a report that brings together research showing recycled plastics are **more toxic** than their virgin constituents.' Something to think about. We also know that recycling plastic causes the dispersion of microplastics into the environment and the risks associated with that? So what do we do? Possible answer - Ensure the plastics we do use are sustainable in terms of their length of usage? (So, if we are going to use them, at least keep them in use rather than on a landfill?) Either way, we need to start separating 'marketing' from fact when it comes to plastic. Perhaps transparency and openness is better than catch phrases and gimmicks? #landscaping #treeplanting #trees #gardens
