🚩 Military City USA… what does that mean for the students here in the City of San Antonio that have enlisted in the Military to start their careers? When asked if they could wear their Military Branch stoles at the NORTH EAST ISD graduation? They were told “No” In high school, stoles are decorative sashes typically worn over graduation gowns. They have symbolic meanings and can represent various achievements, affiliations, or honors. 👉 Honor Societies 👉 Clubs/Organizations 👉 Leadership Roles 👉 Cultural Significance 👉 Academic Achievements Stoles can vary in color and design, often tailored to the specific group or achievement they represent. It was interesting to learn at Our Community Salutes San Antonio (OCS SA) that not all high schools allow students to wear military service stoles during graduation ceremonies. The military branch stoles honor students who have enlisted in the military or have participated in military-related programs, such as ROTC. Interesting to note that the policy can vary by school or school district. WOAI-TV News 4 received this statement “Each commencement ceremony in North East ISD is a dignified tribute to individual and class accomplishments. Individual honors and recognitions are determined by the North East ISD Superintendent and Executive Staff based on academic achievements during each student’s high school tenure. North East ISD is a strong supporter of our military community and our future service members and many will be recognized during the commencement ceremony, however, stoles and cords are limited to academic achievements that occurred while the student was in high school and initiated by the school/district.” 🔍It’s interesting to note that only 23% of Americans 17-24 QUALIFY for military service... Read this second of two frightening analyses of a second MAGA term on higher education. If you claim to care about higher education-academic freedom, support for access/success for underserved students, inclusive campuses, etc and aren’t doing all you can to prevent a second MAGA term (like joining GOTV efforts in swing states, providing whatever financial support you can, etc) you are, I am sorry to say “all hat and no saddle “. Don’t be that person. Saddle up for the next couple of months. Make your voice count. Join Common Power (www.commonpower.org), Indivisible, Red,Wine, and Blue, or some collective effort working in swing states today to hold the Fascists at bay and stop Project 2025. Patriotism, the deep love and devotion towards one's country, holds different meanings for students. As we explore six patriotic colleges, it's important to acknowledge that patriotism can be subjective and vary from person to person. For some, it represents a strong sense of national pride and loyalty, while for others, it signifies a commitment to democratic values and social justice. Understanding this diverse interpretation of patriotism allows us to appreciate the range of expressions and experiences within these colleges, where students can cultivate their own understanding of patriotism while pursuing higher education. https://lnkd.in/girNyUTg

"What are schoolchildren being taught about our nation's history?!" In the multistage Mapping the Landscape of Secondary US History Education project, an AHA research team set out to describe the contours of a vast and varied terrain—an empirical grounding for ongoing debates and deliberations about the teaching of the American past. After a year and a half of interviewing social studies administrators, surveying US history teachers, coding state legislation, and appraising district-level curricula, the team has some answers. In this session, the Mapping team share their second in-progress report from the field. The Mapping team situates its picture of US history teaching within scholarly histories of curriculum, culture, and the American education state—while also providing actionable intelligence for anyone hoping to navigate the current moment in K12 history education. https://lnkd.in/eMf39eq5

A tailored education is indispensable for every child, enabling them to discover their unique gifts and passions. By recognizing individual strengths and fostering a sense of purpose, children are empowered to make meaningful contributions to society, as advocated by Picasso's quote, "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." This personalized approach not only cultivates resilience and self-confidence but also promotes inclusivity and equity, creating a world where every child has the opportunity to thrive.
