Community @ Ashby l Recovering Recruiter l Host of Offer Accepted Podcast l DEI Advocacy l Tenacity/Grit/Passion
I read a comment on LinkedIn the other day comfortably sharing how their job application should take a candidate roughly 45 minutes to fill out. Now imagine being on the job market, knowing old research shows it takes an average of 21 to *80* job applications to get a single job. And I imagine the # of applications each candidate has to fill out is only increasing amidst industry layoffs. Earlier this year, Ashby even released new findings that inbound applications tripled in 2024. And our latest report published just today, which overall focuses on Offer Acceptance Rates, shows that inbound as a source of hires is rapidly increasing for business roles (see chart). So no matter what way you look at it, candidates are applying to more roles than ever before while stressed about securing a job. Requiring an extensive, 45-minute application as the very first step seems like a great way to miss out on qualified talent and highlight a lack of empathy in the current market. It seems that every day we get news of layoffs and job losses. And we're apparently expecting more. To everyone directly affected, hang in there. If you know anyone affected, be kind to them and: ✅ Share any job opportunities you come across with them ✅ Introduce them to anyone you think they should meet who can help with their #jobsearch ✅ If a recruiter reaches out to you and you're not interested in the job, direct them to someone else who could use the referral ✅ Don't be the person always bringing up their unemployment status - trust me, they're looking harder than you might think they are. PS: Lending a helping hand where you can could make all the difference to someone who needs it. *** ➡ I'm Jerusha ➡ I work with people just like you to take charge of and command their careers. ➡ Having gone through many applications and worked with others to land their dream jobs as a coach, I know you can do it too. ➡ Feel free to reach out for any of the following: CV/Resume Writing, Cover Letter Writing, Interview Prep, Career Coaching, and other career services.

Unlock Your Career Potential with Expert Career Coaching, Resume Writing, Interview Prep, and Social Networking
I've had a few discussions of recent where job seekers have mentioned that they don't #track their #application #process. #Tracking your applications is so important for several reasons, especially in this post-covid world where opportunities are there but landing the role is tough due to all the layoffs of the past year (I'd argue the last two years). Here are some reasons why tracking your application process is essential: The first thing I like to do is get organized with my tracker (I have an excel document can send to anyone who wants it). Keeping track of where I've applied, who my contact is and their information, which resume was used (if you have multiple), the #status of each application, each interview, each interaction, and any follow-up actions needed helps me stay organized. Without a #system in place, it's easy to lose track of applications, leading to missed deadlines or #opportunities. I use the tracker to identify #patterns in the types of roles or companies that are responding positively. This allows me to tailor my application process to roles that may have a more effective outcome. Tracking our applications enables us to allocate your time more efficiently. We can prioritize follow-up actions for applications that are further along in the process while continuing to search for new #opportunities much more easily when it's all spelled out for us in one sheet. Many job seekers underestimate the importance of #followup in the application process. Keeping track of when we applied and any correspondence with hiring managers or recruiters allows us to follow up in a timely manner, demonstrating our interest and enthusiasm for the role. Tracking our applications holds us #accountable for our job search efforts. It allows us to set our own goals and #KPI's throughout the process, measure our progress, and adjust our #strategy as needed. #Reviewing our application history can provide valuable insights into what's working and what's not. It allows us to analyze which strategies are yielding the best results and make adjustments to improve our chances of success on our next application. Feel free to message me if you'd like a free copy of the tracker I use.
