LinkedIn, are you taking spammers and phony accounts seriously? Do you actually have a Trust and Safety Team? ... or is it just an automated mailbox? In the past months, I've received at least 7 solicitations from what clearly are phony accounts. They either claim to be someone who has just arrived in the US and is reaching out for new connections or a representative of a generic company claiming to be interested in discussing employment opportunities. I've reported these incidents several times, and I keep receiving an automated response saying that your Trust and Safety team didn't find these accounts violating the community policies. REALLY?? 1) Usually, a stock photo of a young and attractive Asian gal in her early 20s -- never a headshot -- doing a pose with a short skirt or tight clothes. 2) White-American "power name" that clearly does not fit the photo (e.g. Jessica Cooper, etc) 3) Has thirty connections or less. 4) A job title that's waaaay too senior for her age and experience. 5) Incomplete profile information with job titles that make no sense (e.g. Leader in genetic sciences, international diplomacy, investor and supply chain) 6) Unknown colleges or outlandish education claims (Stanford, Oxford and Harvard-- all in one). 7) Their DMs start with generic exaggerated praise such as "I reviewed your resume, and I'm deeply impressed with your business expertise." (Note: I don't have my resume on LinkedIn.) 8) Clunky, poorly written DMs, never a clear reason for why they want to start a direct dialogue. But it's always the same lead-in. So here's the question... Is it possible to come across a 20-something Asian model/business genius with a caucasian name, who hasn't completed her profile, has few connections on LinkedIn, and is trying to network? Sure! Is it possible to get DMs from 7 of them every couple of weeks? Yeah, right! LinkedIn, what are you going to do about this?

Glassdoor has long been an anonymous outlet for people to share their employer raves and gripes with anyone who’s curious. But no longer. With the integration of FishBowl a few years ago, suddenly, users must be “verified” to use the site. This means that even if people choose to post anonymous reviews of their employers, Glassdoor knows who they are — and so do potential hackers. Plus, there have already been instances of people having their real data — including names and job titles — unwittingly included in a public-facing Glassdoor review. The moral here? Well, as a recruiter for 15+ years, I am biased, but in my view, avoid airing dirty laundry on Glassdoor. Instead, find a new job with the help of a professional who can give you insight into the workplace culture of the company you’re considering, without the risk of having your data exposed.
