Most of our solid cardboard packaging comprises recycled paper and cardboard. The raw materials that we purchase are FSC certified, but what does FSC certified actually mean? Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international hallmark for paper, supported by governments, businesses and environmental organisations. It sets high demands for sustainable and sociable forestry, but sets no requirements for paper production. FSC 100% indicates that the fibres originate from responsibly managed forests. Endangered forests and trees with a high environmental value may not be used for timber production. Felling trees may not lead to a forest disappearing or a loss of biodiversity or damage the natural ability for the forest to regrow. This means that after felling trees, the forest must be given the opportunity to recover. In other words, no more timber can be cut that can regrow. Smart Packaging Solutions does everything in its power to manufacture our sustainable packaging in the most environmentally friendly way, and so with minimum CO2 emissions. This is how we limit the environmental impact with our activities and products. Are you on the lookout for sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging? Today, we celebrate #globalrecyclingday. This day reminds us of the importance of promoting recycling efforts to preserve finite resources such as wood and advance our circular economy. Did you know that single-use paper packaging was the packaging solution with by far the highest recycling rate? According to Eurostat, paper continues to be recycled on average 82.5%. Many countries even surpassed the EU’s 2030 target of 85% recycling. European paper packaging production is also based on sustainable forestry practices to ensure that more trees are planted than harvested and that wood is traceable all along the supply chain. These strong results show that it is possible to combine economic growth and environmental sustainability with single-use paper packaging. Want to learn more about paper packaging? Wood Packaging and Lumber Industry Leads the Way in Green Practices 🌍 As global awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, industries across the board are seeking sustainable solutions to minimize their ecological footprint. In the wood packaging and lumber industry, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's a core value that drives innovation and progress. 🌲Responsible Forestry Practices: One of the key pillars of sustainability in the wood packaging and lumber industry is the promotion of responsible forestry practices. From planting and harvesting to processing and distribution, industry leaders are committed to ensuring that wood is sourced from well-managed forests across North America. 🔄 Circular Economy Initiatives: In addition to sustainable forestry practices, the wood packaging and lumber industry embraces the principles of circular economy. By promoting the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of wood pallets, for example, companies are reducing waste and extending the lifespan of valuable resources, thereby minimizing their environmental impact. ♻️ Recyclable and Biodegradable Packaging: Wood packaging, such as pallets and crates, offers a natural alternative to plastic and metal packaging materials. Not only are wood products recyclable and biodegradable, but they also have a lower carbon footprint compared to alternative materials, making them an eco-friendly choice for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact. 🌳 Carbon Sequestration and Storage: Trees are natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it in their wood fibers. By utilizing wood products in construction and packaging, the wood packaging and lumber industry plays a vital role in carbon sequestration and storage, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. At Wisconsin Lumber & Pallet, we're proud to be part of an industry that prioritizes sustainability and green practices. We are committed to designing waste out of packaging and supplying recyclable and biodegradable packaging solutions. We're also dedicated to making a positive impact on the planet by donating a percentage of every sale to global forest conservation efforts. Join us in celebrating the wood packaging and lumber industry's commitment to sustainability! Together, we can build a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come. #Sustainability #GreenPractices #WoodPackaging #LumberIndustry #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #Environment #GreenBusiness

Ever wondered what happens to a pallet after it serves its initial purpose? At Olympic Forest Products Company, we believe in maximizing the lifespan of every pallet, ensuring sustainability and efficiency throughout its entire journey. Here's a quick look at the lifecycle of a pallet: 1️⃣ Sourcing: It starts with responsibly sourced wood. We prioritize sustainable forestry practices to ensure our pallets begin their lifecycle with minimal environmental impact. 2️⃣ Manufacturing: The wood is processed and transformed into high-quality pallets designed to meet specific industry needs, from heavy-duty transport to delicate product handling. 3️⃣ Usage: Our pallets are used to support the safe transportation and storage of goods across various industries. They’re built to withstand the rigors of shipping, ensuring products reach their destination securely. 4️⃣ Recovery & Repair: After initial use, pallets are often returned, inspected, and repaired if needed. This extends their life, reduces waste, and ensures they can be reused effectively. 5️⃣ Recycling & Repurposing: When a pallet reaches the end of its usable life, it doesn't go to waste. We recycle and repurpose pallet wood into new products, like mulch or animal bedding, giving the materials a second life. Are you curious about optimizing your pallet usage or learning more about sustainable practices in the supply chain? As a paper company we love forests and all they give us, and today is their day - International Day of Forests. It’s a perfect time to hug a tree, climb a tree, or ponder one falling in the forest with no-one to hear. Or you could just look for this symbol – FSC certified. You will find it in many places, and it's good news. If a paper is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified, it means it was made from materials that are recyclable, and from responsibly managed, sustainable forests. What’s more, those forests are certified to be operated in ways which provide environmental, social, and economic benefits; think thriving forests with long-term lifespans; managed and protected animal habitats; and safe work conditions and living wages for forestry workers, just for a start. There are several FSC symbols. FSC 100% is entirely made from materials sourced from FSC-certified forests; FSC Recycled is made from 100% recycled materials, and FSC Mix is made from a mixture of materials sourced from FSC-certified forests, recycled materials, and/or FSC-controlled wood. When you choose a B&F paper sourced from FSC certified mills, you know that the natural, animal and human world are all valued by its producer. So today, check your cereal packet, books or tissue boxes (amongst other things) and see who else is caring for our forests. #FSC #B&F Papers

Eucalyptus & FSC: Are 🧻 TissuePaperProducts.com Companies Tree-Hugging or Greenwashing? ♻️ There's a growing trend of companies touting their use of Eucalyptus fibers and FSC-certified wood pulp. While these initiatives are steps in the right direction, are they the whole story? Let's dissect the issue: 🌲Eucalyptus is a fast-growing tree, but often sourced from vast plantations overseas. The transportation adds significant CO2 emissions to the equation. ✅️🌳FSC certification ensures responsible forestry practices, but it doesn't guarantee minimal travel distances. So, the question remains: are these companies truly sustainable, or are they engaging in some greenwashing? Here's where you come in! * Do you think prioritizing recycled paper makes a bigger impact? * How can companies ensure their commitment to sustainability goes beyond just a label? * What are some ways we, as consumers, can be more informed about the true environmental footprint of the products we buy? Let's discuss! #sustainability #eucalyptus #fsc #greenwashing #recycledpaper #tissuepaper #toiletpaper

For a long time now, we've been exploring ways to remove plastic from our woodland creation projects. As its #WorldEarthDay today, we wanted to show one of the latest innovations we've been trying out - #VigilisBio plastic free tree shelters from Vigilis Tree Shelters 🌳🌲🌳 These shelters have very similar properties to plastic tree shelters but are made from a unique blend of potatoes, wood, corn, and a custom biodegradable polymer. Unlike plastic shelters, they will break down after 5 - 10 years into flakes which then become a food source for soil micro-organisms. All that remains after this whole process is biomass, water, and minerals. No need to return and collect, no microplastics, and no toxic residues. To protect new saplings from damage, we can't stop using tree guards altogether but depending on the client and budget, we're excited that tree planting without the plastic is now possible 🌳 https://lnkd.in/eTZ2x5Mu #plasticpollution #plasticfree #woodlandcreation #treeplanting Edward Nicholson TechArborA
