I shy away from political posts because the hard evidence is no one gives a toss about my opinions. BUT...words matter to me a lot as a human and a media coach. Adios Liz Magill. You and your cohort had the opportunity to be leaders and you chose not to be (and this begins months before the hearing as is well documented.) BUT...this is not strictly a Liz/Claudine/Sally problem. This is a systemic problem that doesn't go away with these college presidents. This was cover-your-ass-group think of the worst kind, an egregious moral failure, lack of common sense and decency and...I could go on. Liz and Claudine were coached for the hearing by the same law firm, WilmerHale who also met with Sally. I had never heard of them until The New York Times broke the story: One Law Firm Prepared Both Penn and Harvard (but I sure as heck wondered who prepped them - see Bonus Read below)...can't comment intelligently except wow, this insider-ism strikes me as terribly and obviously problematic. It's like Bill Clinton and "it depends on what the meaning of ‘is’ is" all over again. NO!! Break the bubble to break the pattern of behavior and create real change. I graduated from the University of Melbourne today with a Master's of Public Policy and Management.

Developmental education is a critical issue at community colleges, according to a new UPDATE on Research and Leadership piece by Nina Owolabi and Stacy Bennett, Ph.D. When first introduced, developmental education was considered a means to support students in their pursuit of college-level courses. More recently, however, much of the research and discussion about developmental education has had a decidedly negative tone.
