I have worked for EMTA - European Metropolitan Transport Authorities for 11 weeks, and it has certainly been an all-new perspective on public transport. Last week, I attended my first-ever general meeting of the association. Here are some key takeaways from the last two months and a half. 🔥 EMTA has 35 members, and they all differ from one another in so many regards (organisational and owning structure, responsibilities, you name it). Yet what unites everybody, is the role of public transport authority. These organisations are quite remarkable in shaping the everyday lives of tens of millions of Europeans. EMTA members organise public transport for more than 100 million people combined. 🔥 There are similarities to doing comms for EMTA and doing comms for HSL Helsingin seudun liikenne - you have to update the website, you have to take care of the social media, you have to send emails, the usual stuff. And then there are the differences. EU actors feel closer than ever before. Our target groups are not the same. This is fascinating. 🔥 Being a public transport nerd of some sort, it has been awesome to learn about different transport systems across Europe from some other viewpoint than that of a mere tourist. 🔥 Kraków was just as nice as my recollections from 19 years ago would suggest. Or actually, nicer.
It has been one week since the end of our 51st General Meeting, with fruitful discussions about current affairs in public transport. Thank you so much for having us in your beautiful city of Kraków - we had a perfect time. Kraków Metropolitan Area Lukasz Franek #EMTA #GeneralMeeting #PublicTransport #UrbanMobility
