World Spay Day is 27 Feb - do you know that spaying and neutering can reduce the incidence of common cat and dog cancers? Neutered or spayed pets are also less aggressive, do less urine marking, and roam & fight less. 1. Why Spaying and Neutering Matters: Failing to spay and neuter dogs and cats contributes to millions of unwanted animals living without shelter, food, or care. It also leads to overcrowded shelters - there simply are just too many animals looking for homes. Puppies and kittens are cute - but they cost money to look after. A female having a litter of 2 to 10 pups is a huge financial responsibility. A responsibility the owner often doesn't want and shifts over to a shelter. All of this means that animal organisations are taking even more financial strain. #JSPCA #worldsprayday

Remmi's List: New August Lineup! Ahsoka, Sharkbait, Iverson, Skippy, Jack, Winston, RoRo, and BeBe are all looking for a a little break from shelter life. Can you help? #RemmisList is a list of animals in our care who are in the biggest need of #shorttermfoster homes. Studies show that giving a dog or cat a break from the #shelter environment for even a night or two significantly reduces stress which helps to make them more adoptable in the long run. Remmi’s list is made up of our #dogsandcats here at the Angels of Assisi shelter who most need some time out of the #kennels. These animals are either #senior, #longtermresidents, in need of medical care, in dire need of a #mentalhealth break from the shelter, or all of the above. Our staff will even provide training on medication administration for our #specialneedsanimals. While the time in our shelter is temporary for all of its residents, Remmi’s list aims to highlight those who could use a vacation the most. If you’re interested in becoming a short-term foster parent to an animal on Remmi’s List, please contact foster@angelsofassisi.org. Happy Monday! 😀 IT'S NATIONAL RESCUE DOG🐶 DAY! May 20th delivers hope, home and family to an unfortunate furry friend who is simply seeking love! It is horrific to understand that millions of animals, mostly dogs, are abandoned by their families. Many of these find their way to a shelter, and many more perish. Fending for themselves in the streets is unknown and often dangerous territory to navigate. Learning to survive is a difficult process that few achieve. Our local Animal Welfare and other Animal Shelters afford these abandoned animals an opportunity to survive by providing them with shelter, food and often medical care. HISTORY OF NATIONAL RESCUE DOG 🐶DAY: Originally founded by Lisa Wiehebrink, author and founder of "Tails That Teach", she created National Rescue Dog Day to help us all understand our connection to the animal kingdom. Teaching children the value of unconditional love, patience, empathy, and general kindness is the focus of her work. The objective is to teach our children how to become better adults and live better lives. After rescuing her dog Cooper🐕and several others, she came up with the concept for this holiday in 2009. According to the ASPCA, more than three million dogs enter shelters every year. Rescue dogs have the same capacity as any other dog to become your friend, family and helper. Fortunately, several rescue dogs are now recruited to become service dogs which assist people with disabilities. Service dogs help those with PTSD, anxiety and other mental issues. WAYS TO CELEBRATE NATIONAL RESCUE DOG DAY: 🐶 Foster or Adopt a Shelter Dog! Visit your local shelter and speak with the attendants. They will be happy to assist you with making a great choice, 👩🦰 Volunteers are always needed! Have a heart for animals? From walks to cuddles shelter animals need to feel love and warmth just like anyone else. Check to see if there are opportunities to take them on a walk, or give them a bath....pitching in will be greatly appreciated! 📰 Spread the news! Post pictures of your visit and share with your friends. The more people who become aware of the needs the more dogs who will have the opportunity to find a forever home! 🏘 #dynamicpressurewashingandroofcleaning #homeowners #patio #driveway #siding #refresh #gutters #commercialbuildings #businesses #softwashing #decatur #madison #huntsville

Founder of Hands2Paws mobile app matching consumers with the right rescue or purebred. EP of groundbreaking unscripted Pet reality show shopping to networks. Owner of EcoZenPureBliss.com and soon NEptune7 Productions.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the legislation in December 2022, but the new law doesn't take effect until December 2024. Puppies, kittens and bunnies can no longer be sold in pet shops. December 31, 2024, is just around the corner. Has any major organization made a public statement about the well-being of animals that are unsold on this day, the last day of December? One year ago, I asked this question in the same forum just out of curiosity. If anybody has been putting a plan together and has not received a solid response, I shall ask the question again. Is anyone aware of any major organization or rescue organization? If our rescues and shelters are red-lining and beyond capacity, where will all the puppies, kittens, and rabbits in New York State end up? What is the plan to ensure the well-being of unsold dogs, kittens, puppies, and rabbits left in stores on December 31, and why has this plan not been made public so volunteers/fosters can offer to help? If our rescues and shelters are overflowing and beyond capacity, where will all the puppies, kittens, and rabbits in New York State end up? #pets #petrescue

Thinking about adding a furry friend to your family? Consider adopting from an animal shelter. Here are some reasons why: 🐾 Save a Life: By adopting, you're giving a deserving animal a second chance at happiness. Every adoption helps reduce the number of animals in shelters and saves lives. 🐾 Unconditional Love: Shelter pets are incredibly grateful and loving. They have so much affection to give and often form deep bonds with their new families. 🐾 Variety of Choices: Whether you're looking for a playful puppy, a laid-back adult cat, or a unique mix, shelters have a diverse selection of pets waiting for their 'furever' Homes. 🐾 Support a Great Cause: Shelters are often run by dedicated volunteers and organisations. Your adoption helps support their mission and continue their crucial work. 🐾 Feel-Good Factor: There’s nothing quite like the joy of knowing you’ve made a positive impact. Plus, many shelter pets are already trained and socialized. Ready to find your new best friend? Visit your local animal shelter and meet some amazing animals who are eager to join your family. Adopt, don’t shop! #PetstreamVet #AdoptDontShop #PetCare #foreverhome #savealife

I think all the animal rescues all over the world should link together as it would benefit all in adoptions. Though with the Feral Cat population, some of them want love, others won't. Just people need to learn to understand cat language including body & facial expressions. They all need to be TNR'd. The main ones to catch are the mother cats. Pet cats should also be Chipped & Snipped and not discarded as that's how you get feral cats. I know that there should be a theoretical test for potential adopters. Same with dogs. People who breed for money should stop, because they don't know what effects it'll have. That's why there's an oversupply of dogs in some shelters. Just think if a human could have a litter of babies every six months every year of her life, no-one would throw her away. Also think about how she'd feel. It's the same for cats, dogs, rabbits, rats and mice and any other animal that can have a litter.
