🖼️ An inspiring conference for our Collectors!
Last Friday, two of our co-founders had the pleasure of attending the conference at Villa Vauban led by Patricia De Zwaef, titled "Identifying the Original: Provenance, Signatures, and Tips for Collectors."
Here are some key takeaways that are particularly valuable for Collectors:
1️⃣ Authenticity and provenance are two different concepts. Authenticity refers to the origin of the artwork, while provenance tracks its history since its creation.
2️⃣ An artwork can be authentic without clear provenance, and conversely, an artwork with clear provenance is not necessarily authentic.
3️⃣ To authenticate an artwork, techniques like scientific analysis or signature studies may be employed.
4️⃣ Provenance is crucial in supporting the authenticity of the piece and adds to its value. It can be reconstructed through historical research, private archives, or bibliographic studies.
From this conference, we learned that authenticity and provenance go hand in hand, with each element being an important piece of the puzzle.
Patricia de Zwaef also provided valuable insights on identifying bronzes and engravings, which we will share in more detail in future posts. Stay tuned!
🔑 To ensure acquiring an original, you can also either consult an expert or simply purchase from the primary market.
🙏 A heartfelt thank you to Patricia de Zwaef for the exceptional quality of the conference, as well as for her passion and kindness.
