Just popping in to lift up this summary report of the Illinois Power Agency's first year of the Illinois Shine's Mentorship Program. These things often take place off the beaten path, but the Agency is taking small but important steps towards supporting disadvantaged businesses. Blurb from the executive summary below. Here's the link to more resources: https://lnkd.in/gZFYfJpn __ The Illinois Shines Program Administrator developed a Mentorship pilot toward the goal of providing resources to the Approved Vendor (AV) network. The Mentorship pilot included an 8-week program training presentation series provided to 12 Approved Vendors between October 23 and December 18, 2023. The participants, or “mentees”, included 10 Equity Eligible Contractors (EECs), 6 small businesses, 4 minority-owned businesses, 1 veteran-owned Business, and 1 disabled-owned business. The goal of the pilot was to equip less experienced AVs with Program knowledge and skills to successfully participate. The presentation series covered several key topics including program requirements, application submission processes and procedures, marketing best practices, consumer protection, and Program resources.

Buzzword Bingo: Let’s talk Work-Based Learning! 🧑💻📚🎓 WHAT it is: WBL is any opportunity that provides students with real-life professional work experience prior to formally entering the workforce. WHY it matters: While a degree can be a ticket in the door, WBL is often the difference-maker for a thriving career. WBL allows employers to cultivate an engaged and diverse talent pipeline, while students build hard and soft skills and grow their social capital, setting them up for greater post-grad success. WHO can step up: Orgs across the social sector have a role to play in advancing WBL. We’ve loved getting to recently partner with: - Three Southern Dallas County school districts aiming to offer WBL experiences to all K-12 students - A university looking to 5x the number of students participating in WBL by expanding opportunities and removing barriers - A foundation adding a full-time staff position dedicated to creating and expanding work-based learning opportunities in their region HOW CoSpero can help: Whatever your role, our team has the experience to help you launch or refresh a WBL initiative! Change Management Requires Standardization In K12 education there's so much standardization in how to deal with curriculum, instruction, assessment and more. What is often overlooked is the need for standard process and procedures when implementing a new community engagement system. Community engagement, while an appreciated asset at both the campus and central office level, is often overlooked when establishing standards for onboarding, engaging and tracking the different stakeholders helping your schools and students. Take volunteer management as an example. From our experience working with K12 organizations, they often do not have district guidelines and policies for volunteer onboarding. If they do exist the processes around registering, screening and approving have not be put in place to follow these guidelines. When processes are in place they haven't been optimized to simplify and streamline the onboarding steps that volunteers must take. This in turn leads to lower levels of participation, and higher levels of frustration and confusion for volunteers and staff. If your district is going to implement a community engagement solution make sure you design the processes for onboarding, engaging and tracking your stakeholders. This will ensure you effectively operationalize your goal of greater, more impactful engagement. #communityengagement,

Educational Leadership PhD | Expert in Transformative Education | Advocate for Inclusive and Innovative Learning Environments
When we build upon a faulty foundation cracks appear. The same goes for building educational practices on faulty foundations. If the foundation never included all identities cracks will appear and we will continuasly be repairing the system. We need to shift from a “repair” mindset to a “rebuild” mindset that would allow us to create an educational system that is fundamentally inclusive and resilient. This re-envisioned foundation would honor each student’s identity, making equity a central pillar rather than an afterthought.

Social professional development (PD) interactions between Vocational Education and Training (VET) practitioners facilitate knowledge sharing, contributing to group and individual teaching practice. At the organisational level, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) that implement systems to manage PD activity and the collection of knowledge can use what is learnt to improve VET products and procedures to improve operational efficiency. For the wider VET sector, practitioners who participate in professional networks and engage in collective PD and sharing of knowledge can improve the VET sector. However, literature has also shown that when RTOs insist that VET practitioners undertake PD without material employer support, there is an increased likelihood they will leave that employer. When VET practitioners change RTOs, unless PD has been managed by the RTO, the knowledge gained leaves with the individual. On the other hand, RTOs that do meaningfully support PD are more likely to retain skilled and experienced VET practitioners and the knowledge they bring. Ward, C.T., & Rodd, C.P. (2024). PD: a professional deterrence? The financial cost and time commitment of professional development for VET practitioners in Western Australia. Australian Journal of Adult Learning, 64(1), 53-81.
