WHAT IS YOUR SIDE HUSTLE? At age 71 my side hustle was doing FREE gardening seminars to help people become more food self sufficient. I contacted clubs, churches, and various other groups and told them I would be happy to schedule presentations regarding HYDROPONICS, No Pesticide gardening and my specialty VERTICAL GARDENS. I had NO intention of earning 1¢. I just wanted to share my 40+ years of experience. BUT it has turned into a business, a youtube channel and a website. After the seminars people would ask WHERE to buy the products I talked about in the seminar. So I created a website and added Affiliate links to those products and also purchased an inventory of products. Seminars attendees also asked If I could do hydroponic installations at their Home and business. This extra income is applied to my CHARITY donations, hiring more farm workers and distribution of food, seeds and gifting of our various products. This all happened because I simply wanted to share my life experience. Making money was the farthest thing from my plan! I achieved these things because of my passion and was NOT just about making $$. Do what you ❤ that is the secret.

One of the biggest barriers to changing behaviour of large swathes of the population is ensuring people feel good about the actions they take. Emotions are a key driver in behaviour change. My council have spent a lot of money on a “rewilding” project. As part of that they’ve been giving away free wild flower packets to residents. Which you may notice from my photo mainly consists of grass and a handful of daisies. Now I feel a number of things when I look at these pots. But mainly irritation that I tried hard (I’m a terrible gardener) to grow some grass. It’s also not having the impact I want it to. Because seriously, what is a handful of daisies going to do? I’m also annoyed that my council wasted money on some grass and daisies. Ironically, when it was a Tory council they actually did more for rewilding by building flower beds on large paved areas and filling them with a variety of different flowers that bloom at different times. They even added a herb garden by the butchers. Which is pure genius I have to say. One of my favourite sayings come from the DEI space; “impact over intent”. Imagine if these seedlings had created something beautiful? Had instilled confidence in someone’s gardening ability? Made them feel good? Works the same in all areas of life when we want someone to do something. It’s why charity shops are so popular. People feel like they’ve got a bargain, and they’re doing something good with their money / old things. It’s that feel good factor. #ConsumerBehaviour #ClimateChange #BehaviourChange

Four County Mental Health Center, Inc. Crisis Garden outside our Crisis Diversion Services (CDS) building is underway for 2024!! We are super excited about this project as we saw great success with it as a treatment tool last year with patients who came to CDS for support. The best part, they got to benefit from their labor by taking the produce home. This year we expanded the size and took it to the next level. We will be bringing the element of psychosocial education by offering groups in which we have community partners teach how to make various vegetable dishes (salsa, salads, etc.) from the produce. Many Four County employees donated items along with monetary donations to make this expansion possible and we are grateful. The idea was brought to life last year by our Crisis Therapist Blair Millemon as a place for our patients in our Crisis Diversion Unit to go, enjoy some gardening, and learn about healthy options for fruit and vegetables. Gardening lightens the mood, lowers levels of stress and anxiety, and also gives a little purpose and joy when the produce is ready for harvesting. The beans, corn, tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, and potatoes have found themselves in the ground. Still to come cucumbers, squash, zucchini, and jalapenos. #CrisisGarden #GardeningBenefits #BenefitsOfGardening #BenefitsOfAGarden #Gardening #HomegrownProduce #HomegrownFruit #HomegrownVegetables #EatingHealthy #HealthyEating #StressRelief #Relaxation #BehavioralHealth #BehavioralHealthMatters #IntegratedCare #IntegratedBehavioralHealth #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #Wellness #ComprehensiveHealth #ComprehensiveCare #ComprehensiveHealthcare #IntegratedHealthcare #YourHealthOurCommitment #WereHereForYou #HelpingMakeLifeBetter

This is a strategic investment in fundraising approach that see into the future for organisation sustainability.
The 5 ways to raise more money: 1️⃣ Find new donors (𝙝𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜) 2️⃣ Retain existing donors (𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜) 3️⃣ Increase average gift size (𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜) 4️⃣ Get donors to give more often (𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜) 5️⃣ Grow word-of-mouth donor referrals (𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜) That’s it. Donor hunting is expensive. Funder farming is cheaper. Hunting involves a lot of luck. Farming is mostly within your control. Hunting is difficult — every #nonprofit is attempting it too. Farming is easier — because many leaders ignore it. Hunting has fewer proven formulas. Farming flourishes through relationships and brand strategy. All of this is why brand loyalty plants the seeds for maximized funding. Let’s dig deeper. 👇🏽 “Non-fundraisers tend to assume the only way to grow income is to add new donors to your donor pool, so there is a tendency to put too much focus on the new at Board and Senior Leadership level,” says fundraising veteran Michelle Benson. The reality is that charities are more likely to get new money from warm existing donors than cold ones, according to Benson. “The second assumption is 𝘰𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘢 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘳, as if people donate and then automatically stick around,” she says. “Of course this is not true — fundraisers know good stewardship sows the seed to the next donation.” Her final advice? Charities have to spark a relationship (and #brand) with a new prospect and earn their trust to get a donation. So neglecting that relationship (and brand) once a donation has been made is how you: → Waste all your previous efforts. → Generate a terrible reputation among donors. → Run on the spot instead of advancing income with a solid retention plan. → Miss the opportunity to grow new income from trading up existing donors. “Good stewardship also leads to the greatest #fundraising prize of all — donor askers or word-of-mouth among a look-a-like audience you want to attract,” she concludes. “When your donors start to fundraise for you, your reach and endorsements increase while your costs decrease.” The root of success here: You only have five ways to raise more money. And fundraising (plus brand) is mostly farming, not hunting. Less snare, more sow. Less chase, more cultivate. 💪🏽💛 ________________________________ 1. Follow Kevin L. Feeling Good About Doing Good There’s something truly magical about nurturing a garden. The act of planting tomatoes or cukes (or anything else), tending to the plants, and eventually harvesting produce brings an immense sense of satisfaction. For many gardeners, this experience goes beyond personal joy and becomes an opportunity to make a tangible difference in their communities. Donating your surplus garden produce through AmpleHarvest.org is a powerful way to share this bounty, benefiting both the gardener and the community....(read more below) https://lnkd.in/eCTksamr

My little children remained at the window. I was still trying to decide what to do with them. The situation was the same. One of the plants was growing while the other looked almost dead. Someone recommended me to ask my neighbor, a skilled and successful gardener, for advise and help. He has a beautiful and magnificent green house in his backyard where plants of many shapes and colors are growing and having a healthy and productive life. When I asked him for help he said: - Were the seeds part of a present?- he did not wait for an answer- those are bad seeds- he said- I use only selected seeds who are a guarantee for growing. Your possibilities are really limited if you use seeds of such bad quality- he said. He explained to me that he has a program for selection and the seeds need to pass a series of tests before they can be used to grow in the greenhouse. He recommended me to dispense the child who stop the growing process. He explain that sometimes, some bad seeds are selected erroneously, and they can work at the beginning, but later they disrupt the environment because their sickness and lack of energy. -I have a reputation to maintain and I do not have time for accommodations or additional support. If you want to be a successful gardener, then, you need to have the best. I recommend you to eliminate those plants, improve your selection process, and promote your program as open but selective, popular but elitist, and resourceful but very expensive- he said. Later, he sent me a request for a monetary donation. -It is for research purposes- he stated at the end.

Hello! My name is Ana, and I am trying to find sponsors for a nonprofit program I am attempting to put together and would love to share the dream and get it off the ground. My Husband (Kristopher) and I are attempting to put together 2 separate programs. The first program is geared towards low income families facing food instability - having gone through this ourselves we started experimenting with Hydroponic gardening. We 3D printed a tower and are starting to grow our own vegetables and fruits. The plan for this program would be to print a "Tower forest" and give classes to low income families on how to start the process for Hydroponics Gardening and for them to have nutritious foods to feed their kids while having more nutrition value then store bought vegetables and the satisfaction of not only saving money but also being able to learn a new skill they can use even in a apartment or smaller spaced homes. And to run the system for less than $15 a month. The second program will take more time to put together but the idea is basically a commune/shelter for Victims of DV/SA/unsafe environments , and Homeless families- specifically geared more towards women and children ( I am hearing more and more from moms leaving their spouses or partners and ending up living in their cars or on the streets with their kids then any other dynamic unfortunately.) The dream is to get to start about 5-10 acres of land, and to start teaching homesteading while providing a roof over their heads, food in their bellies and something to do with their hands- there will be a community garden which will provide the veggies, herbs and such for the kitchen (they would also be getting their own plots for their own growing to sell at the farmers market), we would host a farmers market in a allotted area 1x every 1-2 weeks, there will be farm animals as well to provide meats, eggs and teach the importance of farm animals. We would have a large barndamonium for meetings, meals/potlucks and such. I have already found a small business to build small cabins for individuals and families so that everyone has their own spaces. I would also love to involve local Therapists to come in a few times month either for individual or group needs. As well as bringing in the community for things like first Fridays where we would teach a skill to the public or have a few of the live in communees teach a class about something they have a skill in. Really it will be about meeting someone where they are and teaching them new skills to make a living for themselves in a safe environment that is geared towards getting them back on their feet again. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! Please comment, share and follow for more info as we plan and grow! If you feel like you would like to get involved with this project please send me a message or leave a comment we would love to have you!💜
