The Johns Hopkins Hospital (JHH) hosted two events spotlighting gun violence awareness and prevention to recognize Gun Violence Awareness Month in June. JHH kicked off the month with a community rally at the end of May, organized by Johns Hopkins Government and Community affairs. The event brought together hospital leaders and East Baltimore community advocates, including the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE). JHH hosted the second event, the Break the Cycle of Violence Summit, on June 7. The event featured panels and lectures on strategies to address youth gun violence from Johns Hopkins Medicine employees and additional leaders in violence prevention and intervention from other medical, community and public institutions. The summit is part of the ongoing Break the Cycle, Hospital Violence Intervention Program at the Johns Hopkins hospital, and also coincided with Wear Orange Weekend, a time to honor gun violence victims and survivors.
