Recently you may have seen my other posts about strategic volunteer engagement. I want to let you behind the scenes to see more about how this is working with my partners at Mount Saint Mary's University. Earlier this month, Mariam Khwajazada and I discussed our project during our presentation at CASE (you can get the slides here: https://lnkd.in/gKS2AKC7) Our goal was to come up with a volunteer engagement plan that would: - Support revenue-generating activities for the university - Create opportunities that would be attractive to our alums - Meet our level of readiness aka resources and current program development - Connect with our existing alumnae engagement team mission and purpose In support of the second pillar, we conducted a survey on volunteerism and were surprised by some of the results as we sought to find what roles our alums were most interested in. Some options that we thought would be slam dunks were not, and some options we hoped they would embrace, they were all in for. Now, I'm working with advancement staff to share those findings with our most important collaborators across campus. What's great about this process is that so many stakeholders can see the data and it's very clear where we can all work together to get the biggest wins for the university and its students (spoiler alert: mentorship is the name of the game). These partners have loved the insights and this data is setting us up to work on very clearly defined projects together. So what are the takeaways here? - You need to be clear on understanding your audience and what interests them (even if you think you know the answer already!) - Campus partners (think faculty, student affairs, and admissions) are thrilled to be part of the process - Clear data makes for a clear plan If this project sounds like the type that could help you, I'm offering a workshop this Spring on strategic planning for advancement professionals. I can help you come up with your own plan to do this critical work on your campus. Visit the page to sign up for the interest list today: https://lnkd.in/grru3_iP

Thank you so much for giving up your time to support young people, Marta! We were fortunate to have you representing HUT Architecture as well as colleagues from ZeroAvia and Piercy&Company teaching students who were super engaged with learning more about #employabilityskills and #careerpathways Showing representation and sharing information is incredibly important to continue improving equity for people from under-represented groups, as in this interesting article that highlights statistics about young people studying architecture from areas of low representation: https://lnkd.in/ezz5mjrQ
This week I had the opportunity of volunteering for Inspire Education Business Partnership, facilitating a 'You're Hired!' careers workshop with Year 10 students at Mossbourne Victoria Park Academy. HUT Architecture have been volunteering for INSPIRE for some years now, and I was excited to take part in a school local to me in Hackney. Along with my fellow volunteers, we spoke with students about job applications, CVs and interviews. It was such a pleasure to work with such interested and engaged young people. Many thanks to Anne-Marie Greenland for organising - would encourage others to look for future volunteering activities on INSPIRE's website: https://lnkd.in/erJtJDyZ

Gianna Leider is igniting a passion for service in the future leaders of volunteerism, motivating them to contribute to their communities. Whether it's through volunteering or as a part-time summer employee, she's a source of positive light and inspiration for staff and students in JA BizTown and our summer camps. ❤️ 1. What has volunteering and working at JA taught you? "It has taught me how important it is to understand the basics of business and money. It's something that is so overlooked in our education system and should be taught more often." 2. What is one financial concept you think people your age need to understand more? "Budgeting! As a teenager, it's easy to spend money on non-necessities and not save. Going to college is an expensive event in your life and I think it's super important to acknowledge that and start saving early." 3. What are you most looking forward to about college? "Meeting new people who share similar interests but also being able to pursue my career aspirations." 4. What is your favorite JA memory? "Spirit week at Summer Camp!" 5. Anything else you'd like to share? "JA Summer Camp has created so many memories that I'll cherish forever and it is an opportunity you can't pass up." Thank you, Gianna, for being a shining example of a student volunteer! We know you will be a smashing success in all you do! 👏🌟 Visit our website at www.jaorswwa.org for more information about our summer camps. #studentvolunteers #gamechanger #positiveimpact #summercamp

So, you might be wondering, what is the Student Impact Network? ❓❓❓ Well, I’m glad you asked. At the Student Impact Network (SIN /saɪn/), we believe students like you hold the power to create meaningful change. We also believe that volunteering should be a mutually beneficial experience. That’s why here at the Student Impact Network, there are two parts to this organization: 1️⃣ Part 1: Level Up Your Skills & Build Your Future 💙 Students need a job to get work experience but they need work experience to get a job. This volunteer opportunity is meant to help break that cycle through building a portfolio of the work you’ve done, obtaining a reference and building connections. 📝 2️⃣ Part 2: Make a Tangible Impact in Your Community 💙 Helping those in need within our community is extremely important right now. This can be at a university campus like York University, or it could be somewhere downtown. The projects we lead could vary from something like hosting a theme-specific community event all the way to renting a commercial kitchen and handing out food to community members for the day. The ideas are limitless. ✨ To learn more about the organization, our events or how you can volunteer with us, check out the LINK IN BIO! 💙
