Advocating for Accountability and support in Nursing ; MUST READ content if you’re a Nurse or an healthcare provider. I write to shed light on a pressing issue within our healthcare system: the unjust burden placed on nurses amidst systemic challenges. As an advocate for nursing, I stand firm in emphasizing a fundamental truth: no nurse sets out from home to deliver subpar care. Recent events have brought to the forefront the plight of nurses facing disproportionate consequences for mistakes made while on duty. While individual accountability is essential, it's equally crucial to address the broader systemic issues contributing to these incidents. Nurses undergo rigorous training to ensure the provision of quality and effective care. However, we must ask ourselves: can we confidently say the same about hospitals and management? Too often, nurses find themselves grappling with inadequate staffing levels and a lack of essential tools to perform their duties effectively. Unsafe practices and errors frequently stem from staffing shortages and staff burnout, leaving nurses stretched thin and struggling to balance multiple responsibilities simultaneously. Despite voicing concerns, nurses are often instructed to soldier on due to staffing shortages, only to face consequences when errors occur. It's disheartening to witness a single mistake overshadowing a nurse's decades of dedicated service, leading to the revocation of their pin and license – often their sole source of income. I urge us to collectively address these systemic challenges and advocate for accountability and support within our healthcare institutions. Nurses are human beings, not infallible machines, and it's time we recognize and respect the invaluable contributions they make to patient care. Let us work together to end this cycle and ensure that nurses receive the support and recognition they rightfully deserve. Please share this message to raise awareness and spark meaningful dialogue within our professional community. #Yourstruly Adeyemo Tolulope John #Nurse #Nursing #NursingAdvocacy #SupportNurses #HealthcareAccountability #NurseEmpowerment #PatientSafetyMatters #NursingLeadership #HealthcareAdvocacy #Mustread

"We don't have a nursing shortage; we have a shortage of nurses who want to work at the bedside because of the environment." In a recent interview, Trish Gallagher RN MSHS opened up about her decision to step away from the CNIO position, the need to "completely revamp nursing documentation," the role technology has played in burnout, and how she hopes to drive positive change. https://lnkd.in/ddcfzfGm #nursingleaders #nursingburden #nursingdocumentation #patientcare #bedsidecare #healthcareit #itadoption #womenleaders

Despite chronic #nurse #undestaffing hospitals continuously cut their nursing labor costs and see nurse wages as “unsustainable”. We need to #unbundle #nurse #reimbursement to break the vicious cycle of nursing cuts and poor patient care. We’ve written about this in Health Affairs and JAMA. I used to believe that we were facing a national nursing shortage, but that's not the case. There are more licensed, working nurses today than ever before. However, many nurses refuse to work at hospitals, and many others are considering leaving their staff positions in favor of agencies, homecare, and other opportunities. When I asked nurses about their misgivings working in acute settings, they almost universally responded with the same answer: "I love working in acute care, I just can't take that level of stress and disrespect given I can make more money, and stress less, somewhere else." The issue we're facing is not a nursing crisis, it's a culture crisis. Hospital nurses are tired, overworked, and undervalued. They spend their days wading through - literal crap - to provide exceptional patient care, yet they feel under supported and underpaid, especially compared to agency nurses who are making 1.5x-4x the rate of staff nurses. It's time for a change. Hospitals don't need new solutions to get warm bodies in the building; they need structural infrastructure to ensure that the nurses who show up to work each day are not going home in tears, planning their exit. We need to value our nurses better. We need to make sure they have the support they need and are being cared for the way they deserve. The way they care for patients daily. When I see a soldier wearing fatigues, I thank them for their service. When I see a nurse wearing scrubs, I do the same. Both groups put themselves in the line of fire to provide safety and security to absolute strangers. Let's give them the respect and support they deserve. #inhousehealth #cultureiseverything #solutions #nursing #nursingexcellence #staffingsolutions #scheduling

What the #nursing #shortage isn’t, and what it is: ⚡️It isn’t a shortage of nurses—it’s a systemic shortage of financial resource allocation to nursing by the US healthcare system. ⚡️It isn’t causing a break down in our nursing care delivery model—it’s a symptom of a broken model, a visible sign of a malignant systemic issue that lies underneath. ⚡️It cannot be fixed by staffing ratios alone—nursing payment reform that creates transparency and spurs investments in nursing human capital is needed to catalyze improvement. The Commission for Nurse Reimbursement offers feasible solutions that are good for nurses, hospitals, payers, and consumers. Rebecca Love RN, MSN, FIEL Sharon Pearce Melissa Mills, RN, BSN, MHA

During Nurses Week, it’s important to acknowledge the state of the nursing profession. Survey findings from the Massachusetts Nursing Association reveal a potential exodus of skilled caregivers in the coming two years. Nurses cited burnout, exhaustion, and understaffing as reasons for their eventual departure. Healthcare professionals deserve working environments that prioritize their well-being. This is where Hercules can help. By eliminating a high burden/low value task from their day, Hercules can not only save nurses time but also alleviate physical strain. To further discuss Hercules’ impact on nursing retention, boosting injury prevention and more, please reach out to me! #nursesweek #nursesweek2024 #nurses #nursingleadership #healthcare #HerculesStrong

Jobs for nurses who don't want to be bedside nurses. 👆 This is a headline so often seen in blogs, videos, and other nursing-related content. It's one that causes two thoughts for me: 1. We've come a long way over the past few decades in terms of creative solutions to use nursing knowledge in new ways! This thought makes me hopeful for the future. 2. The bedside work environments are toxic and unsafe and give unrealistic workloads, which cause nurses to look for new places to work. This thought makes me worried and sad for the future. Which thought resonates most for you? Will the options and opportunities lead to new innovative ways to care for the millions of people who need it every day? Or, will the lack of bedside nursing resources cripple our already hurting healthcare system to the point of no return? I'd love to know your thoughts! #nursesonlinkedin #nursing #futureofnursing #healthcareonlinkedin #bedsidenursing #nursingworkforce
