Ever Notice How Nature Shows Off?
Plants and animals show off in order to survive. Take the peacock for example. I love peacocks for their beauty but also for what they represent.
The reason the peacock spreads its feathers for all to see is to attract a mate or scare off predators by looking bigger than they are.
In the world of business, during a job search or simply managing your career, one must learn to strut your stuff without reservation. Let me assure you that you can do this without coming across as being arrogant.
You just need to put more emphasis on being bold about sharing your accomplishments. You get to switch off the inhibitions about what you’ve done and what you can do so others will know!
Spread your feathers. Be bold in your branding, because in reality, you’ll never be too bold!
What do you think of when you see a peacock with all its glorious feathers spread out and on display?
Helping you land your next position, Susan

Dear Network & If Hiring Managers can Overstand why Pets and Plants need Love, Why Is It so Hard to Practice this Approach When it Comes to People:
The reality is that PEOPLE BRING their life experiences to the WORLD of WORK.
And your success in increasing productivity and revenue, is based on having Talent Acquisition team members who honor this, and can nurture and affirm existing staff and potential hires.
So grateful and thankful for connecting this week on LinkedIn.. with the author of the 2023 book…‘KPIs: A New Approach’ by Robertson Hunter Stewart... because it’s been so validating re: my PEOPLE- centered work style.
Lastly Hiring Managers, we're entering the 4th quarter of the fiscal year.
As such, what are you going to do to ensure you have the right talent on your team, to help your workforce evolve in the ways that you know they need to grow.
All the Best,
ck

“The most important thing in media is that first job. At WOUB Public Media, you got to spend all that time at the station in front of a live mic on radio and in front of a live camera on TV," said Bob Mihalic. "You end up so far ahead of everybody else and are able to get a great first job. The first job sets up everything in your career and working at WOUB gave me the ability to get that first job. WOUB was everything.” #WOUBProudOhio UniversityScripps College of Communication
I’m a big believer in continuous learning and growth.
As a #publicrelations solopreneur, there are always new technologies, new tactics, and new ways to solve problems.
And I look for opportunities to get advice, learn and share resources while also helping others along the way.
That’s why I’m selective when joining industry groups or enrolling in programs.
Value is important and time precious.
For professional development, I’m a long-time member of Michael Smart's Inner Circle of PR leaders. It’s helped me serve my clients better, provided new ways to be productive, and allowed me to share my expertise with others.
That’s a #win.
Then there’s New York Women In Communications.
When I first went out on my own 20 years ago, this sisterhood of communications professionals served as my cheering section, giving me confidence and support while also teaching me how to network.
Most recently, I joined PRConsultants Group, a nationwide network of senior-level, award-winning public relations agencies across the U.S. My mentors, Barb Harris and Sharon Kreher from teamworks communication were my inspiration for joining the group.
Agree or disagree? Do you believe in continuous learning?
If so, what industry groups or resources provide that for you? Please share in the comments below.

When asked what PR Consultants Group means to them, founding members Barb Harris and Sharon Kreher have this to day: "It's been thrilling to see the evolution of our organization to be 10 people who all worked together on the same client, to now being 50+ members strong. But, what still stands out is that first and foremost, PRCG is about relationships. We are more than colleagues but friends who we can rely on for advice, partnership and fellowship."
In 2023, you can find Barb and Sharon running grand openings for White Castle restaurants across their home state of Arizona, managing 9/11 memorial events in 17 US Cities, and the East Valley Veterans Parade, with their team at teamworks communication
Please join us in celebrating Barb and Sharon for their incredible contributions to our industry and to our organization. #PR#Communications
"Man, it's the same thing everyone else says I'm sure I mean, it's just it's a great place to be, you know, I came from, I came from a corporate world where you're a number. And we work in a place where everyone cares about everyone." Hear more from Cole Murphy, RP Homes' Director of Development in the video below!
It was awesome to be among 250+ storytellers, marketers and creative professionals representing communities and destinations doing great work at City Nation Place in #Houston this week! In addition to partnering with Patience Fairbrother on a talent attraction roundtable and releasing DCI's Talent Wars report, I left feeling so inspired about place marketing and the work that we do at Development Counsellors International. Here are just a few of my favorite takeaways. #CNPAmericas24#econdev#destinationmarketing
1️⃣ Your brand is not your logo. You must answer who you are and your brand ethos first.
2️⃣ Slow down and do the research. Know that it takes time to listen to your community, talk with residents, partners and stakeholders, and understand outside perceptions.
3️⃣ Your story must be based on authenticity. Your actions create your narrative. Find authentic creators and storytellers within your community and partner with them.
4️⃣ People support what they co-create. Make sure to involve your stakeholders, community and partners. They will then become your community's best ambassadors and cheerleaders.
5️⃣ Collaboration is worth the effort. Building trust among your community partners takes time. Lean into what you're good at and allow partners to bring their strengths to the table too.
It's so important in place marketing to take the time to involve your stakeholders and to bring the community along. Too often do we see people wanting to launch a brand, a website, a campaign quickly with limited research and feedback....and almost always when they do that, something comes back to bite them.
This is also coming from someone who likes to activate, so I get the need for speed, but sometimes slowing down reaps larger rewards (which is probably a good motto for not just place marketing, but life in general;).
