This year’s #IDAFLW highlighted the critical need for financing to increase the efforts in reducing food loss and waste, contributing to achieving climate goals and advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. June 5 is World Environment Day, one of the international days observed by the UN. In recognition of this day, we would like to draw attention to Sustainable Development Goal No 6: “Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.”    Goal No 6 includes safe drinking water for everyone as well as protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems. 🚨#SDG14 calls for responsible consumption and production. Overconsumption, irresponsible production practices, and the creation of excess waste lead to degradation of natural resources – increasing disaster risks. Disasters like floods and cyclones can affect communities' health by spreading toxic waste; wildfires can burn plastic pipes contaminating water. Consumption and production patterns need to be re-orientated to prevent over-extraction of resources and environmental degradation. ♻️Risk-informed management of existing levels of waste can help to prevent the creation of new risk.
