Last week we had a client accept a new CSM job! Her OTE went from $54,000 to $90,000. 🥳 My first question to her was "what're you gonna do with all that extra cash!?" But then I put my 'business owner' hat on and asked her: "What would you say to someone considering working 1:1 with us?" She said 👇🏻 "As someone who was previously in a customer success role but not doing actual customer success responsibilities, this program helped me gain the confidence to land a higher paying customer success role and fill in knowledge gaps that my previous job did not teach me. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone that is uncertain about whether they have what it takes to work in customer success." Her experience is the perfect example of what I'd call "non traditional CS" with a CSM title. Moving from a CSM role where you're not *really* doing Customer Success can be SUPER difficult. Within 14 days we completely re-branded "C" as a candidate. She had transferrable experience but never held a traditional CSM role before. We started by digging DEEP into her work experience. We found: 🤌🏻 Every skill a hiring manager in Customer Success would want to know about. 🤌🏻 Every accomplishment a hiring manager in Customer Success would be impressed by. And then we took all that information and re-packaged it up in a shiny new resumé. Then we helped "C" deploy a new networking strategy. And then we fine tuned her interview stories and presentations. 🔥🔥 And just 70 days in, she received TWO customer success job offers. C's story is a great example of what can happen when you don't have traditional work experience. It's almost like.. if you put all your work history together, you're the perfect candidate for a CSM role. But for some reason, putting it all together feels difficult and no matter how hard you try, it just feels "off". This could mean that you have a hard time explaining your background. My career had a boost when I moved into a Customer Success role in the year 2018. It was not easy getting that job. When I started working with the customers I realised that there were many things from my previous experience which I could apply here. The customer expectations remain the same irrespective of the industry you work in. I had prepared well on this aspect when I was giving interviews for the CSM roles. I was very clear how I can incorporate the learnings from my previous jobs in the CSM role. Some accepted that and many rejected that notion. But I learned from each and every interaction. That’s what I tell anyone looking for advice on how to move into a Customer Success role. Keep creating chances for yourselves. Sooner or later you will be accepted by people who believe in your thought process and vision. #customersuccess #career #interviews
