Sometimes you have to think outside the box… 📦 In my first year of #university I had a number of health problems and I was due to miss a lecture in October with the then #MarketingExecutive at #Superdry due to a hospital appointment. However, in the pre-lecture notes 📝 they had provided their email address in case any students wanted to ask questions. I decided to shoot my shot instead… • I preemptively emailed them stating I was due to miss the lecture, and that I was sorry I was going to miss it but explained the circumstances. • I asked questions about her and her role at Superdry. • I then asked if there were ever any #internships, unpaid or otherwise then I would be greatly interested. That email thread landed me a #summerinternship at Superdry HQ the following May where I worked during my summer break. I learned far more on the job experience here than in any classroom and that knowledge has stayed with me all these years. When I asked, why did they hire me, she told me it was because I stood out and no one had done this previously. My point…if you want to stand out from the masses, you have to get comfortable with putting yourself out there! Don’t wait for internships or opportunities to arise or be posted, sometimes you have to make them yourself and never be afraid to take that chance, the worst they can say is no. ❌ Lastly, you may not remember me, but I will always be grateful to Kat Lockwood who took a chance me on. #shootyourshot #thewebannex #marketingintern #fearofrejection #lifetips

When you’re putting together your first team, there are always questions about what kind of talent pool you’ll have, will they be the right fit for your mission, will they help you grow while you help them grow, will they be worth the time… Start-ups are still creating the systems and processes that make a business run like a well-oiled machine, so there are too many unknowns. And bringing in new people is always a gamble. PJ Bellantoni & I were blown away by the talent applying for our internships as we were interviewing candidates. The experience, the passion, and the diversity in almost every way was incredible. It forced us to move past our idea of hiring one or two interns and hire SIX. Three started this week and another attended our May meet and greet before starting Monday. This group did NOT disappoint!! Seeing Avery Fly, Alexis Hallum, Jalen Mitchell, and Elena Masio come together with PJ, myself, and others in the Jax sports community and fit IN and TOGETHER like we’ve been a team for YEARS was indescribable. Despite having very different experience and backgrounds, we were immediately a TEAM…because what ties us together is the business mission and hearts to serve. Can’t wait to add Kitan Olaleke-Banjo and Kinsley Reliford to this already extraordinary team in the next month!!! I really enjoy speaking with those who have recently #graduated and are looking to make their break in the #MedTech industry 👩🎓 😊 The excitement and enthusiasm that you guys have is awesome! Most will have found that the transition from academia to industry does not come without it's #challenges. Throughout my time at TRESP, I have learned a lot about the types of challenges that recent graduates face. I have also learnt some useful ways to help people overcome these challenges🏋♂️ 🏔 I would like to share some tips with you all! So to start - TIP #1 Do not discount your experience outside of university! By this I mean, any experience that you have done in retail, hospitality or customer service. Hospitality experience teaches you skills in prioritisation, quick problem solving, communication, conflict resolution and team work. Retail experience teaches you about the importance of product knowledge and the benefits of using product knowledge to sell. Warehouse/production work shows that like to be hands-on and have a good attention to detail. All of this experience is really valuable! So make sure to highlight this experience when you're speaking with a recruiter, hiring manager or talent acquisition. Of course, we also want to hear about your degree and any internships too. Tell us an exciting story about all aspects of your experience 📖 We are here to listen!
