New Planning Consent: A new Ascot Design has been approved in Sevenoaks, Kent, within the Metropolitan Green Belt and the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, just outside the adjacent Ivy Hatch Conservation Area. The consent covers a traditionally styled new family residence with a basement, poolhouse, entrance gates, parking with turning space, and landscaping. Our clients desired a home reflective of their taste and contemporary lifestyles, and ways of using their interior and exterior spaces. The appearance of the existing property is outdated and the layout has an irregular footprint owing to numerous historical extensions. Additionally, the driveway and parking are too narrow for modern vehicles. Our team developed a design that managed to consolidate the built form by 11%, aligning with Green Belt development principles, while increasing the interior floor space by 46%. To accommodate our clients' taste for their bespoke home, we took their desire for classical styling and suggested materials that align with the local architecture and enhance the design of the village setting. Perla Negra House | Residential Architecture | Costa Rica Project Background: Casa Perla Negra, set by the sea within a forest of yayos, is an excellent example of mimetic architecture. This idea entails mimicking features from the natural and cultural surrounds in order to achieve a harmonic integration of the building with its environment, reduce environmental effect, and celebrate local culture via innovative design and material use. Spatial Design and Design features: Modulation and Grid Pattern: The house's extended L-shaped architecture allows for cross ventilation. With a 5-meter modulation, it strategically distributes communal areas on the first level and bedrooms above. landscape Adaptation using Piles: Piles allow for integration with the landscape while limiting environmental effect. Laminated wood, which is resistant to maritime corrosion, resembles the verticality and transparency of nearby tree trunks. Camouflage is achieved by using dark hues that blend the building into its surroundings. Cross Ventilation: The home uses cross ventilation to create comfortable communal rooms that open out to the outdoors. Bedrooms provide comfort and solitude through cross-ventilation choices. Social spaces, such as the outdoor eating area, are totally open, allowing for a seamless transition between the indoors and outside. Additional mimetic components in the concept include: terrain Integration: The home integrates with the surrounding terrain, employing black to simulate tree bark and shadow darkness for hiding. Fusion and Camouflage features: Design features, such as vertical railings and enclosures, help with visual integration with the surroundings. A facade should not be designed solely for aesthetic appearance, it must also respond to climatic factors. With this principle in mind, we designed our recent project, "The Gupta Residence." The client desired a small apartment building featuring two sets of 2BHK flats on a compact plot of 812.75 sq ft. The front of the building faces the northeast, so we incorporated large windows and a spacious balcony to capture the pleasant morning light. With buildings on all the other three sides of the plot, it was challenging to design spaces that are well-ventilated and naturally lit while ensuring comfortable living conditions. To address this, we incorporated a large open-to-sky (OTS) area at the center of the building. The combination of materials—what appears to be copper-toned metal and dark marble—gives the structure a rich and elegant feel. The open design allows for natural light to permeate the space and the terraces offer outdoor experiences at various heights. In terms of urban integration, this building would stand out as a landmark. However, the maintenance of the greenery and water features could be challenging, and the practicality of the curved balconies may limit usable space. Rating: 4.5/5 - The design is innovative and visually striking, with sustainability aspects through its green spaces. It would need careful planning to ensure functionality doesn't suffer for the sake of form. Deductions are for potential practicality and maintenance concerns.

A successful barn conversion relies on a unique mix of creative and strategic thinking. When you get this mix of creavity and strategy right, it is wonderfully rewarding. The strategy was implemented to convert these dilapidated agricultural brick barns, which were originally a stable block and pigsty, into a wonderfully modern and internally contemporary luxury dwelling, all whilst respecting and enhancing the external appeal the building fabric. The spaces created in this fantastic 5-bedroom dwelling comprise of light-filled open plan living arrangements offer a welcoming and spacious double height entrance lobby with cantilevered staircase, and a walk through vaulted and glazed "corridor of light" and standing seam aluminium "link" connecting the original barns together. The property also hosts "private and quiet" snug, office and gym spaces in amongst the open-plan living areas, which cater for a lively and busy household. The materials selected for the project were chosen to enhance the existing brick barns, whilst ensuring "agricultural" feel of the property was not lost.
