I can attest to the fact that science has changed a lot over the past decade. What once was driven by the tireless pursuit of new knowledge, is now predicated upon high profile publications and funding, which has ultimately lead to an uptick in fraud and fabrication. Identifying our potential, and taking it all the way to the top. As part of the series of posts introducing our female scientists in celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we spoke to Tania Zhidkov, our QC Team Leader At Tel Hashomer site. She got into the field of chemistry via her passion for forensic identification. From there she went through a variety of positions as a chemist and an R&D researcher, and 8 months ago she brought all this vast experience to her new position here at Omrix Biosurgery. Her secret is flexible thinking, belief in herself and determination to follow her dreams. “I've always dreamed of a career in the sphere of forensic identification and insisted on carrying out my national service period at a police laboratory. To do so, I had to complete a degree in Science, which led me to study Chemistry in university. I had to prove myself worthy and to deal with various obstacles, but my determination paid off. I believe that the more diverse we make the field of science, the larger is the variety of ideas and solutions we get. Women bring in innovative insights and points of view and unconventional ways of solving complex problems. In my case, thanks to my background in forensic identification and medicine development, my manner of thinking is more flexible when it comes to unusual challenges. There is immense value in women's independence. Reposting this article that I wrote for International Women’s Day 2022, all of which remains relevant. According to WIPO statistics, it is estimated that only 16.2% of inventors named on international patent applications were women in 2022, which is actually fewer women than at the time I wrote the article! It is also now predicted that at the current rates, parity among PCT listed inventors will only be reached in 2061… 3 years later than the date predicted previously 😔. https://lnkd.in/ewF2U-2d
