Unfortunately the title of this article hides the truth of the matter: Part of it is a simple misunderstanding on the CBC's part but I think the rest is simply disbelief. In the leaked documents it was said that the Forces have questioned the "sustainability of the CH-148 Weapon System" in the medium and long-term. The misunderstanding here is that the CH-148 Cyclone "is" the weapon system according to common DND terminology and it is the whole helicopter that is at risk of being unsustainable - not simply a part of it. I mean that in the truest sense of the word, because if an aircraft can't be effectively repaired and sustained it'll spend more and more time on the ground and less time doing what it's supposed to. As the article discusses; the consequences of being the owner of an "orphan" aircraft should have been known since the very beginning but the idea that Canada spent a lot of money on a system that a) Doesn't do what the manufacturer promised and b) Will be difficult and expensive to maintain... defies belief.
