🆕 I’m excited to share the publication of this comprehensive review titled "Pathophysiology and therapeutic options for cirrhotic portal hypertension" in The Lancet Gastroenterology & Hepatology, by The Lancet Portal hypertension is a pathological condition resulting from increased resistance to blood flow within the portal venous system. In most cases, this resistance arises due to liver cirrhosis, but can also stem from other hepatic disorders. The elevated portal pressure leads to the development of collateral circulation, such as portosystemic shunts, and can cause severe complications like variceal bleeding, ascites, and hepatic encephalopathy. 🌍 Globally, portal hypertension poses a substantial burden on healthcare systems due to its association with chronic liver diseases and their complications, impacting morbidity and mortality rates. 💫 Join us in exploring the complexities of cirrhotic portal hypertension and uncovering novel approaches to treatment and new avenues of research! Kudos to co-first authors from my lab Sergi Guixé-Muntet and Sergio Quesada Vázquez, PhD 🆓 Access the review here: https://lnkd.in/dB3Bji2E #Cirrhosis #PortalHypertension #Gastroenterology #Hepatology
