Reflecting on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Today, we honor the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation—a day to acknowledge the harm inflicted by the residential school system and the enduring strength of Indigenous communities.
As a creative professional and educator, I reflect on what reconciliation means in the spaces where I contribute. For me, it's not just about recognizing the past, but also about building a future where all voices are heard and valued.
In branding, design, and education, we have a responsibility to create platforms that amplify marginalized voices, honor diverse narratives, and promote accessibility for all. When we build with purpose, whether it's a website, a campaign, or a classroom lesson, we have the power to challenge harmful stereotypes and bring more inclusive stories into the mainstream.
Today serves as a reminder that reconciliation is ongoing. It's about creating opportunities for open conversations, embedding respect and equity in everything we do, and ensuring Indigenous perspectives and contributions are central to the work we create and teach.
Let’s continue to build brands, spaces, and systems that don’t just reflect diversity but actively embrace and champion it.
