Today, we're excited to announce the full reopening of State Route 84 near Woodside. And as you can see, people are happy about it. Hello. I'm Alejandro Lopez, Caltrans Bay Area. In March 2023, after a series of significant storms, Caltrans closed State Route 84 near Woodside due to two landslides, leaving a 250 foot wide section of roadway destroyed. State Route 84 was not safe for motorists. With the roadway closed, Caltrans began looking into repair options. The first challenge was waiting for the land to stabilize while crews continuously monitored the site. In April 2023, Caltrans crews were able to safely access the site to begin work. Initially, repairs began with crews placing nearly three dozen 50 foot long piles into the lower slope. By July 2023, the roadway was opened to signalized one way traffic control, allowing motorists, commuters and cyclists to use the roadway, and construction work was able to continue behind safety barriers. Caltrans established a project specific newsletter sent regularly to residents, elected officials and partners to keep informed of the progress. The repair efforts included repairing upper and lower slope. Constructing retaining wall. Reconstructing roadway structural sections, repaired drainage systems and erosion control to name some of the work. And now today. With the new pavement, new striping, all the repairs, Caltrans is pleased to reopen this important roadway. This massive effort was only successful because of the cooperation and diligence of our Caltrans crews, our contractor, and the surrounding communities here near Woodside. Thank you everyone.
